Overview
The Florida Sheriffs Risk Management Fund (FSRMF) seeks an experienced claims adjuster for the position of Workers’ Compensation Claims Adjuster. The Workers’ Compensation Claims Adjuster is responsible for delivering a level of claims and customer service that exceeds our members’ expectations. Under moderate supervision, the adjuster will investigate claims to determine an injured worker’s entitlement to workers’ compensation benefits.
Responsibilities
- Identifies, analyzes, confirms and documents coverage
- Completes 3-point contact on new claims within 24 hours to obtain injury/accident details, medical and return to work status
- Establishes reserves within assigned authority, including documentation of reserve rationale
- Proactively manages assigned caseload with documented plans of action to ensure timely and appropriate resolution
- Timely and accurately completes Large Loss Reports (LLRs) on files that meet established criteria
- Evaluates and documents a detailed settlement analysis
- Negotiates settlement of claims within designated authority
- Reviews, approves and/or issues accurate and timely indemnity, medical and expense payments
- Accurately and timely completes state required forms
- Timely and meaningfully documents claim activity in the claim file notes
- Maintains an active diary on all open claims
- Manages resources to maximize cost savings and identify cost control opportunities
- Identifies files with subrogation potential and refers to appropriate department to pursue recovery
Requirements
- High school graduate
- 1 - 3 years of experience as a workers’ compensation claims adjuster
- Knowledge of Florida workers’ compensation statutes, rules and regulations
- Appropriate Florida licensure
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills, to include strong written and verbal communication skills
- General knowledge of litigation terminology
- General knowledge of procedures relating to workers’ compensation claims
- General knowledge of medical terminology
- Demonstrated competency in Microsoft Office products
Preferences
- 3 - 6 years of experience as a workers’ compensation claims adjuster
- Experience with law enforcement claims
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Ability to make presentations
- An effective self-starter who requires minimal to moderate supervision
- Strong analytical and process management skills
- Ability to think critically, solve problems, plan, organize and prioritize activities

- The candidate offered this position will be required to submit to a background investigation.
- This is an in-house position with FSRMF located in Tallahassee, FL; it is not a remote position.
- Valid Florida Driver’s license
- Limited travel is required for this position
