Claims Counsel

We are working with a leading insurance company that is actively seeking a skilled Claims Counsel to join their growing team. This role is responsible for managing a portfolio of claims from initial notice through resolution, with an emphasis on effective coverage analysis, litigation management, and proactive claims handling. The position requires sound judgment, technical expertise, and the ability to work independently while collaborating with underwriters, brokers, insureds, and senior management.

Key Responsibilities

• Independently handle a caseload of claims, including coverage evaluation, investigation, and assessment of liability and exposure.
• Analyze policy language and apply it to complex fact patterns.
• Draft and issue coverage correspondence and claims reports.
• Retain, manage, and direct outside counsel in litigation and coverage disputes.
• Communicate claim activity and strategy with insureds, brokers, underwriters, and senior claims management.
• Participate in settlement negotiations and mediations.
• Stay current on industry trends, regulatory changes, and issues common to professional liability insurance.
• Provide recommendations on claim strategies, reserving, and resolution.

Qualifications

• Active license to practice law in good standing.
• 3–7 years of relevant experience, ideally in insurance defense, coverage, or claims.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proven ability to analyze complex legal and factual issues.
• Effective organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple matters simultaneously.
• Skilled in negotiation, litigation management, and strategic decision-making.
• Relationship-focused with excellent interpersonal and client service skills.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $120,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
