Claims Manager

Position Summary:

Responsible for overseeing the company’s Casualty and Workers’ Compensation claims with the ability to provide post-loss reduction recommendations regarding salvage, subrogation, rehabilitation, and loss control. Requires focus on Workers’ Compensation, General/Product Liability, and Auto Liability, however scope may be broadened to include other lines of business.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Job is an individual contributor and has no direct reports.
  • Provides direct oversight of efficient, cost-effective claims management of workers’ compensation, general/product liability, and auto liability claims in coordination with appointed third- party administrators.
  • Provides direction and assistance to internal business staff in the investigation, collection of documentation, and recovery of claims that fall within the company’s self-insured retention.
  • Manages accountabilities with respect to claim reporting, investigation, litigation management, resolution/outcome processes, and the delivery of claim information to interested parties.
  • Builds, maintains and manages relationships with claims adjusters, insurers, outside legal counsel, in-house counsel, business units’ safety and human resources staff, and other claims-related parties.
  • Develops claim metrics on the mix of claims by type, root cause, frequency, and severity to identify emerging claims issues and trends for communication with management and develops performance benchmarks to track adjusters’ service level.
  • Coordinates with safety loss control and quality assurance management to discuss emerging exposures and/or trends emanating from the review and handling of claims.
  • This role has the responsibility to understand and places in practice appropriate safety procedures. This responsibility is achieved through education, training, use of protective equipment (as applicable) and by following safety policies, regulations, standards, and laws.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience & Skills:

  • 5+ years of experience in related field is preferred.
  • Excellent proficiency in all Microsoft Office Suite Products.
  • Strong working knowledge of workers’ compensation, auto, general and product liability insurance lines along with experienced investigative, analytic, and negotiating skills.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in high-deductible workers’ compensation programs, preferably in jurisdictions including Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, South Carolina, Mississippi, California, Utah, Indiana, and Maryland.
  • Working/general knowledge of pertinent federal/state regulations including labor, Americans with Disabilities Act, OSHA, Medicare, etc.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are necessary to prepare reports and to interpret and communicate complex material, statistical data, and results to management.

Preferred Education:

  • BA/BS or equivalent is preferred.

Compensation/Benefits:

The salary range for this role is $84,460–$126,690, with a midpoint of $105,575. Offers are typically made between the minimum and midpoint of the range, based on skills, experience, and internal equity. In rare cases, highly qualified candidates may receive an offer above the midpoint; however, offers at the maximum of the range are not customary. The salary range posted represents the low and high end of OSI’s salary range for this position. Salaries will vary based on various factors, including but not limited to, location, education, skills, experience, and performance. Base salary is one component of OSI’s overall total rewards package. Other components may include bonuses, special pay programs, comprehensive time off, 401k with match, and a full suite of benefit offerings for you and your family.

Work Environment:

  • Work is generally performed within a business professional office environment, with standard office equipment available.
  • Work conditions are typical of an office environment.
  • This role does not require any domestic travel.
  • Position may require the physical agility of lifting up to 15 pounds.
  • Position may require frequent and/or infrequent of bending, squatting, pushing, pulling, stretching/reaching, use hands or fingers, talk, hear, feel objects, tools, controls and standing/walking on concrete flooring.
  • Position may require the physical ability to stand/walk for Less than 4 hours.
