General Summary:
As a Claims Property Storm Adjuster, you will be responsible for immediate response to storm events to investigate, evaluate, and negotiate property storm claim assignments originating out of the dwelling, homeowner, and farm owner policies. In this role, you will represent AFR in the field and must keep a service-oriented attitude by maintaining professional and productive relationships with policyholders, agents, supervisors, coworkers, and others.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Function as the initial point of contact for the insured on any assigned property claim.
- Focus on accurately documenting investigations, evaluations, recommendations, and plans of action with results focused on developing a defendable claims file.
- Be able to effectively negotiate with insureds and contractors professionally to attain a fair settlement.
- When called to work a storm event, you will be deployed for up to fifteen (15) days straight. During non - storm periods, you will be assisting the Storm Team by reviewing and paying replacement cost claims or following up on pending storm losses, as well as filling in for property adjusters out on PTO. There is additional compensation (storm pay) for days deployed.
- Confer with the Supervisor regarding complex claims and coverage questions or when potential exposure exceeds the level of authority.
- Conform with and abide by the AFR Claims Best Practices, policies, and work procedures.
- Travel (including overnight travel) and irregular work hours will be required to handle storm claims.
- Maintain company vehicle in serviceable condition; prepare and submit mileage reports; track receipts for corporate credit card purchases, and submit expense reports on time.
- Must be available for after-hours call availability on a rotational basis within the Property team.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Job Requirements:
- Four-year college degree or equivalent plus 2 to 3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Working knowledge of Xactimate and XactContents is preferred but not required.
- Ability to read and interpret multiple insurance policies and procedure guidelines.
- Ability to draft routine reports and correspondence, as well as clearly document claim files.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with insureds, agents, contractors, vendors, experts, and employees of AFR.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume .
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Technical skills are critical to utilize and navigate multiple claims systems simultaneously along with basic computer applications.
- Teamwork is essential – should solicit and accept feedback, work well with others, and adopt/share best practices.
- Organizational, analytical, and time management skills are required.
- Must be an Oklahoma resident.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Oklahoma Property and Casualty Adjuster License.
- Valid Oklahoma driver’s license required. The driving record must comply with AFR vehicle policy.
- Insurance education is preferred for career development.
