Located in West Atlantic City, New Jersey, The Great Bay Insurance Group has been professionally involved in the coastal homeowners insurance business for over 100 years. Great Bay knows New Jersey, the coastal areas, and the insurance needs of coastal New Jersey residents.

Great Bay is growing, and we’re adding a full-time Claims Representative / Adjuster to our team to handle claims along the central to southern New Jersey coast. The Claims Representative provides quality claim handling throughout the claim life cycle (customer contacts, coverage, investigation, evaluation, reserving, negotiation, and resolution) and maintains full compliance with internal and external quality standards and state-specific regulations.

We are seeking an adjuster with at least two (2) years of experience who is familiar with reviewing repair estimates, claims software programs such as Xactimate and has strong working knowledge of HO3 and HO5 policies.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Handle first party property claims, as well as some liability claims, from moderate in severity to more complex as assigned
  • Accurately scope damages for building and contents losses and utilize as a basis for written estimates and/or computer assisted estimates
  • Complete residential and commercial field property inspections utilizing Xactimate software
  • Investigate, evaluate, and analyze relevant documents that affect damages, business interruption calculations and liability of first party property claims
  • Review applicable coverage forms and endorsements and provide a thorough analysis of coverage including any potential issues
  • Write detailed coverage, denial, reservation of rights letters and other complex correspondence
  • Ensure claims are thoroughly and accurately investigated, including obtaining statements and interviews from relevant parties and obtaining/interpreting official reports. Work with independent adjusters as necessary
  • Provide excellent customer service to policyholders. Explain coverage and assist with damage itemization, emergency repairs and living arrangements
  • Coordinate vendor services such as contractors, emergency repair, cleaning & replacement services
  • Evaluate and negotiate claim settlements within authority limits and convey to insureds and/or other parties
  • Request authority on claims by preparing a well-documented presentation of facts and damages
  • Ensure payments to policyholders are issued using internal claims system
  • Identify suspicious losses and fraud
  • Recognize and take steps to pursue subrogation and obtain subrogation recoveries
  • May be required to attend depositions, mediations, settlement conferences, arbitrations, pre-trial hearings, trials, and all other various legal proceedings

Education and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but equivalent work experience will be considered
  • Minimum of two (2) years of first-party residential property adjusting experience
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • State adjuster license where required/ability to obtain proper licensing and CE credits as required
  • Experience using estimating software (experience with Xactimate strongly preferred)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write full captioned reports
  • Effective negotiation skills
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Must be able to effectively and independently manage workload while exhibiting good judgement

Physical & Other Requirements:

  • This position may require the individual to access and inspect all areas of a dwelling or structure, which may be physically demanding and require the ability to carry, set up and climb a ladder weighing approximately 35-48 lbs., walk on roofs, and enter tight spaces (attic staircases and entries, crawl spaces, etc.). While specific territory or day to day responsibilities may not require an individual to climb a ladder, candidates must be capable of safely climbing a ladder when deployed to a catastrophe which is a requirement of the position.
  • Occasional travel required
  • May be called upon for catastrophe duty

Pay: $65,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
