Claims Specialist

As a Claims Specialist you will be responsible for managing an evolving portfolio of cargo claims from start to finish. This includes working with internal and external customers to investigate, understand contracts and facts of loss, organize series of events, effectively communicate, and help resolve all claims involving BBI Logistics.

Our ideal candidate will have experience in property and casualty and/or commercial insurance. Must enjoy learning new software, maintain high level of organization, possess problem-solving skills, demonstrate critical thinking, and maintain effective and professional communication. Individuals must have ability and willingness to adapt to change, be a team player, meet and exceed deadlines all while working in a demanding fast-paced environment.

What you’ll be doing:

• Research reported cargo claims and determine validity of the claim
• Manage the documentation (collection of paperwork/bills of lading) and submission process of each claim
• Collect all necessary documents and information to file, investigate, and resolve claims in a timely manner
• Diligently follow up on claims and insurance companies on behalf of BBI Logistics and our customers
• Contact carriers, insurance companies, salvage companies, and customers regarding claims made by customers, receivers, or shippers for damaged goods or shortages of freight
• Work with Accounting and Collections staff to resolve carrier and customer accounting issues related to claims
• Provide ops team members with clear communication in relation to jointly owned tasks

What you’ll bring to the table:

• Experience in commercial claims and/or property and casualty
• Strong independent decision-making skills
• Creative mindset with excellent storytelling capabilities
• Ability to work quickly and handle requests from many people
• Capable of meeting multiple deadlines occurring at the same time
• Ability to prioritize various requests and handle changing priorities
• Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
• Hardworking and a positive attitude with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Strong communication that will allow assistance to a multitude of personalities and learning sets
