Position Summary

The role of the Claims Specialist is to respond to notifications of discrepancies reported by customers, truck lines, plant personnel, sales, field reps, customer service, etc. These notifications may be regarding product integrity, quality, damage and/or count discrepancies. It is the role of the Claim Specialist to act as mediator between outside parties and internal personnel to resolve issues in an efficient and effective manner while being able to sustain good relationships with all parties. Follow and comply with company procedures and policies set forth by management team and customer specifications.

Essential Functions

  • Demonstrate strong customer service with ability to make decisions to mitigate losses quickly.
  • Communicate with a sense of urgency to customers, carriers, and plants via phone and email.
  • Investigate root cause of claims (transportation, plant, sales, customer error etc.)
  • Acquire required documentation needed to determine liability quickly.
  • Review documentation and determine if the parties involved have provided the required information to process a claim.
  • Gather data and relay it to sales teams to problem solve for customer accounts.
  • Enter claims to be processed.
  • Ability to process all claims, deductions and customer DSO in designated time frames.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Extremely organized with ability to multitask.
  • Determined to work projects through to completion even when outside the scope of the department.
  • Prior experience handling customer accounts as i.e., accounts receivables, claims, deductions and DSO preferred.
  • Understands cash application processes to assist customer accounts preferred.
  • Can perform the functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to read and write legibly in English.
  • Must have organizational and time management skills.
  • Must adhere to all company policies and regulatory guidelines.
  • Must be able to communicate with co-workers, supervisor, and other departments.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Skill of being a self-starter.
  • Be able to communicate in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Problem solving skills.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business, Economics or related field preferred.
  • Must be able to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations.

Supervision Exercised

  • None. Reports to the Plant Manager.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to sit and reach with hands and arms. 

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The work environment is in a plant / office setting with varying degrees of temperatures ranging between 40-50 degrees and noise levels is moderate to high. Exposure to manufacturing equipment movement and wet / slippery floors.

Pay: $23.00 - $29.00 per hour
