Claims Specialist-Part-Time

The Claims Specialist is responsible for validating select short payments (deductions) by customers and filing claims for repayment on those deductions deemed invalid. Through the claims process, the Claims Specialist recovers funds which result in a positive impact to the income statement. This position requires general accounting knowledge. This role works with various excel-based trackers, accounting software (QuickBooks), an inventory and order management system (ProTrace), and a variety of customer and carrier portals. The AR Specialist works closely with other Accounting team members, members of the Logistics and Sales teams, as well as external partners (customers, freight carriers and brokers). This position is for someone who is very trustworthy and detail oriented; they will help to ensure all finance policies and controls are followed.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

· Research and validate deductions taken by customers off their receivables for shortages, damages, miss-ships and returns as well as for delivery-related fines and fees. Whenever validation work shows an erroneous deduction or that someone else is liable, the Claims Specialist files claims for reimbursement, with follow-up until resolution.

· Work productively with Accounting, Logistics and Sales team members on claims-related deductions.

· Other accounting tasks and projects as needed, including support for other types of deductions.

Qualifications / Education / Experience Desired:

· Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree, ideally in Accounting or Business Administration

· 2 years minimum of experience in an accounting position

· Experience working with an accounting software system, preferably QuickBooks

· Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and Word; basic Excel skills required, intermediate Excel skills preferred

· Understanding of consumer products business, especially food industry, preferred

· Exceptional communication skills

· This position will report to the Controller

· This position is expected to be able to work with minimal oversight at times, and confidently handle co-worker and customer interactions on their own

Work Location: Remote- Position holder must be local to Northern Colorado and able to work occasional days at the Loveland, CO office.

Travel Required: Limited – May be asked to go off-site (locally) for training or company events.

Schedule: This is a Part-Time position with flexible hours; approximately 20 hours per week.

Pay: $24.00 - $26.00 per hour
