MLMIC Insurance Company (a Berkshire Hathaway Company) is based in New York state and has specialized in providing professional liability insurance for NY physicians since 1975. After operating independently and as a mutual insurance company for most of its existence, MLMIC was purchased by Berkshire Hathaway in the fall of 2018.
We continue to be the most significant writer of professional medical liability insurance in the State of New York. We provide insurance for physicians, NPs, PAs, dentists, and hospitals.
We are currently seeking candidates with an Insurance, Healthcare, Nursing or Paralegal background for this exciting opportunity.

Responsibilities
- Responsible for initial case assessment – gathering and analyzing documents including pleadings and medical records.
- Responsible for case evaluation including coverage and reserve analysis, liability and damages assessment, billing and retention of medical experts.
- Responsible for litigation management – collaborating with defense counsel to develop defense strategies as well as attorney compliance.
- Participation in case resolutions including mediations, conferences and trial monitoring. Communicating with insured professionals as needed.
- Work Location: Remote, located within 20 miles of New York City. Limited travel to court proceedings is required.
- Perform other responsibilities as needed
Education and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree required. Degree in Healthcare preferred.
- Knowledge of Insurance in Paralegal, Nursing, and Healthcare preferred.
- 1+ years of related experience.
- Knowledge of Professional Liability Insurance is preferred.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Organizational and planning skills are required.
- Hands-on experience and strong aptitude with Microsoft Office, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Insurance experience [knowledge of policies and regulations] -all lines is also preferred.
- Strong analytical and time management skills.
- Basic computer skills are required.
- Excel strongly preferred.
