Job Title: Class A Diesel Mechanic (Heavy Equipment)

Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Class A Mechanic to join our team in Lindenhurst, Long Island. This role is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a fleet of Kenworth T880 tractors with PACCAR engines, along with forklifts, front-end loaders, and other construction and yard equipment. The ideal candidate is highly skilled, self-motivated, and capable of handling complex mechanical repairs with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on Kenworth T880 trucks equipped with PACCAR engines (MX and related platforms)
- Inspect, maintain, and repair diesel engines, transmissions, clutches, differentials, braking systems, steering, and suspension
- Service and repair forklifts, front-end loaders, and other heavy and light equipment
- Diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
- Perform preventive maintenance (PMs) to ensure fleet reliability and safety
- Use diagnostic software and tools to identify mechanical and electrical issues
- Complete work orders, inspection reports, and maintenance records accurately
- Ensure all repairs meet DOT, OSHA, and company safety standards
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding repair needs and equipment status
Qualifications & Experience
- 5+ years of experience as a heavy-duty or diesel mechanic (Class A level)
- Strong experience working on Kenworth trucks and PACCAR engines preferred
- Hands-on experience with heavy equipment (forklifts, loaders, construction or yard equipment)
- Advanced knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and diagnostics
- Ability to work independently and troubleshoot complex mechanical issues
- Valid driver’s license (CDL a plus but not required)
- Own tools preferred
- Welding experience is a plus
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs
- Comfortable working in shop and outdoor environments
- Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and work with hands for extended periods
Schedule
- Full-time, day shift
