Position Summary
The District is seeking a qualified Licensed Water Operator to assist in the operation and maintenance of the public water system. This position performs a wide variety of duties including operation and maintenance of water distribution facilities, system monitoring, water quality sampling, customer service, and emergency response.
The position requires significant driving throughout the District’s service area and work in all weather conditions. The operator will participate in a rotating on-call schedule and will also assist with training and supervision of operator trainees.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain water system facilities including groundwater wells, surface water treatment equipment, storage tanks, booster stations, and distribution infrastructure.
- Monitor system performance, pressures, flows, and water quality to ensure compliance with TCEQ regulations and operational standards.
- Perform routine inspections and maintenance of water system equipment, valves, hydrants, meters, and appurtenances.
- Collect water quality samples and assist with regulatory monitoring and reporting.
- Respond to service calls, leaks, and other operational issues across the distribution system.
- Locate and exercise valves and perform flushing and other distribution system maintenance activities.
- Assist with installation, repair, and replacement of water lines, services, and meters.
- Operate vehicles, tools, and equipment used in water system maintenance.
- Maintain accurate operational records, logs, and work documentation.
- Interact professionally with customers and the public when responding to service requests or field inquiries.
- Participate in a rotating on-call schedule and respond to after-hours emergencies when needed.
- Assist with training and oversight of operator trainees and entry-level staff.
- Maintain compliance with all District safety policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid TCEQ Class C Water Operator License in Distribution, Groundwater, or Surface Water (or equivalent license from another state with ability to obtain Texas license).
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid Texas driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to operate work vehicles and travel extensively throughout the District’s service area.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating or maintaining public water systems.
- Experience with water distribution system maintenance or water treatment processes.
- Knowledge of TCEQ regulations and water system operational practices.
- Experience supervising or training junior staff.
Working Conditions
- Extensive driving throughout the District’s service area.
- Work performed outdoors in heat, cold, rain, and other environmental conditions.
- Must be able to lift, carry, and operate tools and equipment used in water system maintenance.
- Participation in a rotating on-call schedule for emergency response.
Pay: $22.00 - $26.00 per hour
