Full Job Description
ARCS Aviation is seeking an XR/Computer Vision Engineer to develop and deploy markerless spatial anchoring capabilities for defense and commercial applications, including aircraft maintenance, mission planning, and operational visualization.
This role focuses on anchoring digital Areas of Interest (AOIs) onto real-world assets without QR codes or visible markers, using advanced model-based tracking, SLAM, and sensor fusion in austere and contested environments.
You will work at the intersection of extended reality (XR), computer vision, and digital twin technologies to support next-generation DoD and commercial capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Develop markerless object tracking and spatial anchoring for complex commercial & defense assets (e.g., aircraft, ground vehicles).
- Align real-world systems with CAD/digital twin models for precise AOI placement.
- Build XR applications using Unity and/or Unreal Engine.
- Integrate AR frameworks such as ARKit and ARCore.
- Implement sensor fusion pipelines (camera, IMU, depth/LiDAR, GPS-denied alternatives).
- Deploy solutions on tactical XR hardware including devices.
- Develop and optimize real-time CV/AI models for object and feature recognition under degraded conditions.
- Conduct testing in operational environments (flight lines, hangars, field conditions).
- Ensure performance in low-connectivity, low-light, and high-noise environments.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, robotics, computer vision, or related field.
- 3+ years of experience supporting Commercial, DoD, IC, or federal programs.
- Strong experience in computer vision, SLAM, or AR/VR development.
- Proficiency in C#, C++, or Python.
- Hands-on experience with Unity or Unreal Engine.
- Experience with AR SDKs such as ARKit or ARCore.
- Experience working with 3D models (CAD, meshes, point clouds) and coordinate transformations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with model-based tracking or digital twin alignment in defense contexts.
- Familiarity with OpenCV, PyTorch, or similar applications.
- Experience integrating LiDAR, depth sensors, or UWB in GPS-denied environments.
- Prior work with Program Executive Offices (PEOs), Commercial Depots, Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC), or Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR).
- Experience deploying to edge devices in disconnected or classified environments.
- Familiarity with RMF (Risk Management Framework) and secure software deployment.
- Experience supporting rapid prototyping efforts.
