Prorated benefits including paid leave, paid holidays, and enrollment in the Utah Retirement System benefit

Looking for steady, part-time work in a welcoming office environment? Tooele City is hiring a Clerk to support our Human Resources team!

This position is anticipated to follow a weekday schedule, generally around Monday–Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. or as needed to cover for other staff or assist with special work needs. Applicants should plan for increased hours and adjustments during our busiest times - typically spring and early summer - when we are at peak seasonal hiring, handling our benefits open enrollment period, and processing fiscal year budget changes.

As our HR Clerk, you'll serve as the first point of contact for the department. You'll answer questions, process employment-related forms, organize and maintain confidential personnel records, and handle extensive filing, scanning, and records archiving. Another important part of the role is accurately inputting new and updated employee information into the HRIS and other databases-including personal details, compensation, benefit elections, and training records. You'll also generate pre-built, standardized reports, schedule events and meetings, and help coordinate orientations and training sessions. You'll support the department's employee engagement, health, morale, and welfare initiatives which requires some moderate physical abilities.

As you learn more about HR and payroll, you'll support specialized processes such as recruitment and onboarding, compensation and performance reviews, payroll, benefits, training, and more!

Some of the qualifications we're looking for include:

  • High school diploma (or GED) and two years of clerical/secretarial experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Organized, dependable, and detail-oriented.
  • Friendly, professional, and enjoys helping others.
  • Comfortable with computers, databases, web-based software applications, email, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and familiarity with AI.
  • Able to handle confidential or sensitive matters with discretion.
  • Capable of performing basic math, including addition, subtraction, and percentage calculations.
  • Prior experience with HR functions is helpful, but not required - we'll provide training.

This is a great opportunity if you're looking for meaningful part-time work. You'll get to know City employees and see how they work together to make Tooele City a "Hometown to be Proud of!" You'll also gain hands-on experience in HR while keeping a schedule that balances well with school, family, or other commitments.
