POSITION PURPOSE/SUMMARY

To improve the library education program by assisting school librarians with the organization, maintenance, circulation, and access to library materials and resources.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

The duplicating clerk shall have a minimum of a high school diploma or its equivalent and shall have a high level of competence in clerical skills as demonstrated by the District’s skills assessments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Assist in maintaining a well-organized and accessible library collection, including cataloging, shelving, and inventory of books, audio-visual materials, and software.
  • Support the use of the library’s computer and catalog system; assist students and staff in locating and checking out materials.
  • Organize, track, and manage Chromebook inventory; assist with student Chromebook checkout and return procedures, along with reporting Chromebook repairs as needed.
  • Perform clerical tasks such as data entry, typing, filing, generating overdue notices, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Create and maintain bulletin boards, book displays, and other visual materials to promote reading and learning.
  • Duplicate instructional materials as requested by library staff or teachers.
  • Distribute and provide basic support for audio-visual and educational technology equipment.
  • Support the annual inventory of library and technology materials.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming library environment.
  • Assist in supervising students in the library or as assigned by school staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all school-related matters.
Effectively communicate, verbally and in written form, with students, administrators, staff, and the community as needed.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the school librarian and/or the building principal.
Operate office machinery.

MENTAL DEMANDS

Ability to maintain confidential information; communicate clearly both orally and in writing, and/or ability to reason and make appropriate decisions. Solve a variety of problems in many different situations and perform in a fast-paced environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this position, an employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear. The employee will often lift, carry, move, push, or pull up to 20 pounds.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Employment will be on an at-will basis for 9 months, beginning with the first day of the work calendar or at the time of employment for the duration of the school year with prorated personal leave. Each library clerk will be provided a work calendar showing the specific daily work schedule of the employee. The work calendar may be modified by the Board of Education at any time, as needs dictate.

Seven hours (including a 30-minute non-paid lunch period) will constitute a workday for the library clerk. A definite daily schedule will be established by the building principal and approved by the Chief Human Resources Officer.

The yearly salary will be disbursed in nineteen (19) equal payments or twenty-four (24) equal payments per employee’s choice.

EVALUATION

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of support staff personnel.
