About the Role
Gilmer Consulting is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Client Accounting Associate to support our growing client base. This is a remote contractor role ideal for professionals who thrive in a fast-paced, client-facing environment and take pride in delivering accurate, timely financial services.
As a Client Accounting Associate, you will manage day-to-day accounting functions for multiple virtual clients across diverse industries — serving as a reliable point of contact and a trusted steward of their financial records.
Responsibilities
- Perform monthly accounting and bookkeeping for multiple virtual clients
- Maintain accurate, organized financial records in QuickBooks Online
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and merchant accounts
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Categorize and record transactions with precision
- Generate monthly financial reports (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow Statement)
- Communicate proactively with clients regarding questions or missing information
- Identify and resolve discrepancies or errors independently
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all client financial data
- Adhere to internal quality standards and procedures
Required Qualifications
Experience & Certification
- 5+ years of professional accounting or bookkeeping experience
- QuickBooks Online (QBO) Certification
- Proven track record of delivering accurate, timely financial work across multiple clients
Technical Skills
- Expert-level proficiency in QuickBooks Online
- Solid understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles
- Experience with bank reconciliations, AP/AR, journal entries, and financial reporting
- Ability to quickly adopt new software platforms as needed
Professional Skills
- Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail
- Self-directed with the ability to manage multiple client accounts simultaneously
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent time management and consistent ability to meet deadlines
- Professional, reliable, and discreet
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working within an accounting, bookkeeping, or tax firm
- Experience supporting fractional CFOs or outsourced finance teams
- Familiarity with both accrual and cash basis accounting methods
Work Setup
- Location: Fully remote (work from anywhere)
- Schedule: Flexible hours with availability during U.S. business hours as needed
- Employment Type: Independent Contractor (1099) — contractors are responsible for their own taxes, equipment, and workspace
- Engagement: Part-time with strong potential for expanded hours as our client base grows
Compensation
- Starting at $20/hour, commensurate with experience
- Compensation structured per hour or per client engagement (discussed at offer)
- Performance-based rate increases available based on tenure and quality of work
Pay: From $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 15.0 per week
