We are seeking a Client Benefits Enrollment Specialist who is passionate about empowering older adults in underserved communities. This role requires a unique combination of interpersonal and technical skills to successfully guide clients through the often-complex process of applying for state and federal benefits like SNAP (food stamps) and Medicare/Medicaid. They must also possess exceptional technology, organizational, communication, and time management skills, and experience working in a fast-paced environment.

Summary

The Client Benefits Enrollment Specialist reports to the Client Benefits Enrollment Manager. This pivotal role involves overseeing the state and federal benefits enrollment process for older adults with limited incomes. Key responsibilities include enrolling new and existing clients in vital benefits identified by the National Council on Aging. To be successful, the Client Benefits Enrollment Specialist must have experience of working with older adults; They also require a current, in-depth understanding of the benefit programs they support, including eligibility criteria, application procedures, required documentation, and renewal processes. As an integral member of the Elder Financial Safety Center team, the Client Benefits Enrollment Specialist collaborates with cross-functional teams to promote the economic security of individuals aged 50 and above. This role does not involve direct supervision of staff.

Program Goal

Equip adults 50+ with the tools and knowledge they need to secure their financial future, avoid outliving their savings, and prevent financial exploitation.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establishes rapport with diverse clients, assess financial status, facilitates benefits enrollment and renewals, and conducts follow-ups.
  • Attends initial and ongoing training programs for Benefits Counselor Certification.
  • Advocates for and represents older adults with the appeals process for state benefits, providing advocacy and representation for administrative reviews, reconsiderations, and hearings.
  • Organizes Benefits Enrollment Clinics and group coaching sessions.
  • Manages and maintains accurate program data, documentation, professional contacts, and resources using standardized documentation practices.
  • Represents the Center and agency on community boards addressing senior hunger and poverty.
  • Identifies, cultivates, and maintains relationships with key community partners.
  • Participates in cross-functional team projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the EFSC Director or Center and agency leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred, particularly in Social Work, HR, Benefits, Insurance, Financial Field, or related area; or three to five years of relevant experience.
  • Strong knowledge of state and federal benefits programs, including, but not limited to, SNAP, Medicaid, Medicare Savings Program, Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, and Extra Help.
  • Strong Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database software.
  • Cultural competence with an ability to work successfully within an inclusive team and with diverse clients.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to work independently or collaboratively.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • High level of professionalism, dependability, and a strong commitment to work ethic.
  • Capacity to work in a first-of-its-kind program that requires a high level of adaptation and willingness to be flexible as the project evolves.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

Pay: $23.00 - $26.00 per hour
