Client Engagement Specialist

Shift Requirement: Tuesdays – Fridays 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Saturdays 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Full-time Hourly.

Position Purpose:

The Client Engagement Specialist (CES) plays a key role in supporting clients throughout their recovery journey by fostering engagement, motivation, and connection within the treatment community. This position works closely with the Client Engagement Services Director and clinical team to help clients remain actively involved in programming, reduce premature discharges (AMA), and encourage personal growth in recovery.

The CES focuses on building rapport with clients, facilitating recovery-focused activities, supporting group meetings, and serving as a bridge between clients and staff to ensure a positive, supportive treatment environment.

Position Specific Competencies:

1. Establish supportive relationships with clients shortly after admission.

2. Identify early warning signs that a client may be considering leaving treatment prematurely, including:

Withdrawal from programming
Isolation from peers
Expressions of frustration or hopelessness
Conflict with staff or other clients
Escalate operational concerns that may impact client satisfaction.

3. Document all client engagement interactions in the designated electronic record system (e.g., Kipu EMR).

4. Culturally sensitive and trauma-informed practice orientation

5. Know and maintain professional communication skills: verbal, written, and non-verbal communication

6. Understand and maintains the highest level of HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability) standards

Position Duties, Responsibilities, and Tasks:

1. Core:

a. Establish meaningful, individualized connections with clients by engaging on a first-name basis and learning their unique recovery goals.

b. Build a foundation of trust through consistent, person-centered interactions to encourage full participation in treatment programming.

c. Serve as a positive recovery role model and promote a culture of accountability, respect, and personal growth.

d. Provide encouragement and motivation for clients who may be struggling with engagement in treatment.

e. Intervene with clients expressing intent to leave treatment against medical advice (AMA).

f. Leverage established rapport to provide gentle, effective redirection when clients exhibit behaviors that may hinder their progress.

g. Utilize motivational interviewing and supportive conversation techniques, grounded in a known relationship, to encourage clients to remain in treatment.

h. Communicate concerns to clinical staff and leadership when clients are at risk of leaving prematurely.

i. Assist clients in processing emotions and challenges contributing to AMA decisions.

j. Facilitate or assist with recovery-oriented meetings and peer support groups when appropriate.

k. Encourage clients to attend scheduled groups, meetings, and activities.

l. Share personal recovery insights when appropriate and in alignment with program policies.

m. Plan and facilitate recreational, wellness, and recovery-supportive activities for clients.

n. Foster a "community of care" by promoting healthy social interaction and group cohesion within the treatment environment.

o. Encourage participation in activities that support emotional, physical, and spiritual wellness.

p. Act as a communication bridge between clients and program staff.

q. Listen to client concerns, feedback, and needs and communicate them appropriately to the treatment team.

r. Help clients navigate schedules, program expectations, and available support services.

s. Proactively monitor the "pulse" of the community to maintain a safe, respectful, and recovery-focused environment. Provide daily shift reports to facility directors.

t. Assist with daily programming logistics and engagement initiatives.

u. Support the Client Engagement and Services Director with programming, events, and community-building efforts.

v. Help maintain a safe, respectful, and recovery-focused environment.

Qualifications/Position Requirements:

1. Education: No specific education requirement; a demonstrated job knowledge and experience will be considered in lieu of formal education. Bachelor Degree in psychology, social work behavioral healthcare, human services, counseling, or healthcare administration preferred.

2. Experience: 1+ years of experience in a behavioral health or residential treatment setting required. Experience with client advocacy, peer support, case management, or engagement outcomes preferred. Lived experience or peer certification (CRPS) is a plus.

3. Certification/Licensure: CPR/AED/First Aid and FL and Driver License required.

4. Training and Knowledge Required at Time of Hire (preferred): Ability to develop trust with individuals experiencing emotional distress or ambivalence about treatment. Motivational Communication Ability to help clients reconnect with their treatment goals during difficult moments. Emotional Intelligence. Understanding of how shame, fear, and resistance can impact treatment participation. Conflict Resolution. Ability to help clients navigate interpersonal challenges in a treatment setting. Ability to maintain Professional Boundaries.

5. Age Specific Individuals Served/Responsibility: Adults (18+ years)

6. Security Measures and Clearance: AHCA Level 2 clearance required. May also require a Local Background Screening.

7. Employment Classification: Hourly,Full-time, Part-time, per-diem or temporary employment. May require occasional evening or weekend availability to support Client Services.

Pay: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour
