Company Description


La Rabida Children’s Hospital provides specialized, family-centered health care to children with medically complex conditions, disabilities, and chronic illness. Through expertise, compassion, and advocacy we help children and their families reach their fullest potential, regardless of their ability to pay.

Our not-for-profit hospital, licensed for 49 beds, helps transition children from neonatal or pediatric intensive care to home, by providing medical, rehabilitative and developmental care, and by training families to continue treatments and manage the necessary equipment in the home. La Rabida also provides extensive rehabilitation for those recovering from wounds or burns and treatment for exacerbations of chronic conditions.

The hospital’s enhanced pediatric patient-centered medical home provides primary care to children with complex medical conditions and their siblings. Children with medical homes elsewhere come to La Rabida for specialty services. La Rabida offers a wide range of specialty services provided to children with sickle cell disease, diabetes, and many others. Children are supported in their emotional and developmental growth, particularly in cases where such growth has been interrupted by accident or disease.

Finally, La Rabida provides forensic and treatment services for children exposed to abuse and neglect, comprehensive assessments for wards of the state, early intervention for children between 0 and 3 years of age. Care coordination services for medically complex children are also provided for those who are covered by a health plan and receive care from providers in Cook County


Job Description


SUMMARY:
Provide administrative and clinical supervision to staff clinicians. Supervision may include specialized knowledge of specific treatment modalities. Provide diagnostic and psychotherapeutic services to children and their families. Provide training. Functions in an independent and professional manner to provide high-quality psychological services to inpatients, outpatients, specialty clinic and their families.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Clinical Responsibilities (45%):

  • Maintains a clinical caseload
  • Oversees assessments with clients. Oversees assessment report that includes recommendations about the treatment and other issues. Reports outcome of assessment and recommendations to the client, caregiver(s), representatives of the agencies involved with the client, (i.e., foster care agency/DCFS/guardian ad litem, etc.)
  • Oversees psychotherapy to clients and their families
  • Oversees in clinical staffings to support the client’s wellbeing and to support the client’s stability
  • Applies knowledge and expertise of a wide variety of psychotherapeutic techniques to assist children, adolescents, young adults and their families cope adaptively with the impact of medical conditions. This includes the wide range of general behavioral problems such as attention disorders, learning and school/work problems, behavioral problems, among others. Psychotherapeutic techniques may include, but are not limited to, individual psychotherapy, behavior modification techniques, interventions, family therapy, group therapy and crisis intervention.
  • May be required to develop and implement specific diagnostic programs and/or treatment programs (“clinics”) for specific patient populations (e.g., incontinence, pain management).
  • Takes an active role in new program development to provide innovative care to children served by La Rabida Children’s Hospital
  • Serves on hospital and Behavioral Health and Community Programs committees as needed or assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities (50%):

  • Provides weekly supervision, individual, group or a combination of both to staff clinicians. This supervision may require specialized training and knowledge in specific treatment modalities.
  • Monitors staff caseloads
  • Assists director with data collection as needed
  • Assists director in reporting relevant program outcomes to providers
  • Assists director in collecting and reporting of fidelity measurements tools
  • May provide training within Behavioral Health and to other departments in hospital


Training (3%):

  • Provides training to various internal staff/trainees


Additional Responsibilities (2%):

  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date records and reports in accordance with BHCP standards
  • Maintains required job skills and professional competencies
  • Maintains an active clinical license
  • Performs other duties as assigned


ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS: 1%

Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications


QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Ph.D./Psy.D./MSW. Degree required. Training in Child Clinical or Pediatric Psychology and APA Internship for Psychologist or LCSW with specific supervised training in childhood trauma required.

Related Work Experience: 5 years of clinical experience with this population highly desirable. Supervisory experience required.

Licensure/Certification: Current licensure to practice in the State of Illinois required;

Related Work Experience: Experience working with children in a medical setting, part of a multidisciplinary medical team, training in assessment, training in operant and cognitive behavioral techniques, experience with child abuse victims, chronically ill children, supervisory experience are highly desirable.

Licensure/Certification: Current Illinois Registration/licensure in Clinical Psychology or eligible and able to attain within 90 days of hire.

CPR required: Only certifications issued by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross will be accepted.
