SUMMARY: The Clinic Physician provides quality, comprehensive medical services to the patient population of the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians Health Clinic. Teaches student learners and Resident Physicians.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides primary medical services to the eligible population.
  • Provides Osteopathy Manipulation Medicine/Therapy to eligible patients.
  • Provide outpatient, clinical and medical services for the LTBB Health Clinic.
  • Arrange for referral of patients required of patients requiring service not provided by the LTBB Health Clinic.
  • Refer patients as needed for specialized health services not provided by the LTBB Health clinic, coordinating with the LTBB Purchased and Referred Care program.
  • Collaborate with and act as supervising physician for mid-level providers providing medical care to LTBB clinic patients. Monitor patients’ condition, progress, and revaluate treatment as necessary.
  • Explain procedures, treatments and test results with patients.
  • Advise patients on nutrition, diet, activity and disease prevention.
  • Medication Assisted Therapy (MAT)
  • Ambulatory office procedures
  • Provide technical and clinical support to LTBB Clinic nursing staff.
  • Participate in health screening programs as necessary.
  • Attend I.H.S. sponsored continuing medical education conferences specific to Native American populations.
  • Practice medicine in accordance with the current standards of practice and criteria adopted by the American Board of Family Medicine.
  • Document patient encounters in R.P.M.S./E.H.R. and Epic system within a timely manner after each visit.
  • Outpatient Monday through Friday only, no call. On rare occasions may receive notification from laboratory regarding critical labs and work with triage nurse to notify patients.
  • Contribute to and Support Physician Wellness
  • Faculty precepting to Resident Physicians, Medical Students, Advance Practicing Provider Students
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Medical Director and within the scope of medical/clinical services being provided.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: State of Michigan Board of Medicine License to practice as a physician required. Certification in Family Medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine required. Experience as a Family Medicine Physician in an outpatient setting. Prefer training and experience in culturally diverse environment; preferably with Native Americans.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: BLS Certification, Current Physician’s License. Board of Pharmacy Controlled Substance License. DEA License Board certification in Family Medicine. American Osteopathic Association Certifications. Teaching Certifications in Family Medicine.

COMMENTS: Indian (Native American) preference will apply. Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine favored. Candidates must pass a comprehensive background investigation. Individual must take a TB test, and get annual influenza vaccination due to working in a healthcare environment.

ABOUT US: On Sept. 21, 1994, the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians (LTBB) was federally reaffirmed with the signing of Public Law 103-324. The Tribe is governed by a nine-member Tribal Council who serve staggered terms. The LTBB Government presently employs over 200 employees across more than 20 departments, ranging from Healthcare to Natural Resources.
