Clinic Lead / Head Dental Nurse

Position: Clinic Lead / Head Dental Nurse - Employed Role

Full-Time : Monday to Friday 8:30 to 17:30 (Weekend availability desirable)

We are looking for an experienced, qualified Dental Nurse to join our team at Leicester Smile Clinic in a combined Dental Nurse and Clinic Lead role. This is an exciting opportunity for a confident, proactive and enthusiastic individual to support the smooth day-to-day running of the practice whilst working clinically alongside our fantastic General and Specialist dentists. The successful candidate will spend the majority of their time nursing, whilst also taking on leadership responsibilities including supporting with rotas, compliance, team coordination and the overall running of the practice.

We are looking for a dental nurse with a minimum of 3 years’ experience who has excellent organisational and teamwork skills, thrives in a busy environment, and is passionate about delivering outstanding patient care. This role would suit someone who brings positive energy, leads by example, communicates confidently and can remain calm and professional under pressure. As well as providing excellent clinical support by preparing surgeries, sterilising instruments and caring for patients, you will help foster a positive, high-performing team culture and maintain high standards throughout the practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the reception, nursing and front-of-house teams
  • Coordinate staff rotas and day-to-day workflow within the practice
  • Promote professionalism, teamwork and a positive working environment
  • Support recruitment, onboarding and staff development where required
  • Ensure compliance with CQC guidelines, practice policies and clinical protocols
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately
  • Support the management of patient feedback and complaints in a professional manner
  • Assist with maintaining high standards of cleanliness, organisation and patient care throughout the practice
  • Monitor team performance and address concerns in a timely and supportive way
  • Participate in practice meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives

Dental Nurse Responsibilities:

  • Preparing patients for dental work.
  • Helping with infection control by sterilising and disinfecting instruments, setting up instrument trays, preparing materials, and assisting with dental procedures.
  • Assisting dentists in managing medical and dental emergencies when necessary.
  • Assisting dental hygienists with procedures when necessary.
  • Providing great patient care.
  • Recording treatment information in patient records.
  • Giving patients information on dental hygiene, oral health care, and plaque control programs.
  • Collecting and recording medical and dental histories and patient vital signs.
  • Providing postoperative instructions as directed by the dentist.
  • Caring for dental equipment.
  • Ordering dental supplies and maintaining dental equipment inventory.
  • Be able to carry out (or willing to receive training in) taking alginate impressions, ITero scanning patients and taking radiographs.
  • Assisting on reception to cover if needed.

Dental Nurse Requirements:

  • GDC Registered
  • Certification in an accredited dental nurse program.
  • Experience using computers for a variety of tasks, including dental software. Carestack experience desirable.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Consistently professional appearance and attitude.
  • Able to provide great patient care.
