Clinical Coder/Administrator
Due to an internal reorganisation we have an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Coder/Administrator to join our busy GP surgery team.
The ideal candidate will ideally have experience in a similar or administration role, but this is not essential as full training is provided. You will need to have lots of common sense, the ability to be able to work under pressure along with excellent communication and IT skills and enjoy the variety that this role offers.
The hours are 37.50 per week with availability to work extra hours to cover sickness & holidays as required.

A General Practice Clinical Coder/Administrator is an important role supporting the smooth running of the practice by ensuring accurate clinical coding of patient information and providing essential administrative cover. You will be part of a friendly, patient-centred team maintaining high clinical standards and adopting modern approaches to care.
Accurate clinical coding data from Docman onto the clinical system EmisWeb into the patients healthcare record.
Identify relevant clinical information documented in patient correspondence, coding appropriately and completing any detailed action.
Supporting all clinical/management staff with general administrative tasks as requested.
Good IT skills and ability to work with clinical systems.
Additionally, this role will support the nursing team in the delivery of administrative services, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team.
The post holder working within general practice/primary care will provide capabilities within care, administration, communications and health records management.
Core Responsibilities
A. Reviewing and coding clinical correspondence, hospital letters, and test results using appropriate clinical coding systems (e.g. SNOMED CT)
B. Updating and maintaining accurate patient medical records
C. Identifying and correcting data quality issues within records
D. Ensuring coding is completed within agreed timescales
E. Supporting QOF, enhanced services, and other contractual requirements through accurate coding
F. Running searches and reports when required
G. Maintaining confidentiality and complying with GDPR and NHS information governance standards
H. Liaising with clinicians where clarification is needed
I. Supporting audits and data validation exercises
J. Keeping up to date with coding guidance and NHS requirements
K. Be responsible for processing all Insurance requests and SARS requests.
L. Administration tasks for the Nursing Team as advised by Lead Nurse.
You will also:
a. Participate in an annual individual performance review.
b. Inform the lead GP of any concerns regarding their role and request professional development as needed.
c. Be aware of their own professional boundaries and what to do when they are reached.
Secondary Responsibilities
In addition to the primary responsibilities, you may be requested to:
· Duties can include but are not limited to, greeting, and directing patients, effective use of the appointment system, booking appointments, processing of information, and assisting patients as required.
· Answer incoming phone calls, monitoring answer phone messages or dealing with the callers request appropriately
· Be responsible for undertaking a wide range of administrative duties and the provision of general support to the GP’s and Nurses and Management team.
· Process personal, telephone and e-requests for appointments
· Support all clinical staff with general tasks as requested
· To act as the central point of contact for patients, the distribution of information, messages, and enquiries for the clinical team, liaising with multidisciplinary team members and external agencies such as secondary care and community service providers.
· Support administrative staff, providing cover during staff absences/annual leave
· Photocopy documentation as required
· Input data into the patient’s healthcare records as necessary
· Manage all queries as necessary in an efficient manner
· Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times
· Carry out batch messaging to appropriate patient cohorts under the direction of the Practice Manager.
· Cancelling and rescheduling appointments for clinicians in events of their sickness and unplanned absences
