Clinical Coordinator, Surgical Technology Degree Program

This is a Full-Time, benefited, tenure-track MCCC position.

BARGAINING UNIT/NON-UNIT, CLASSIFICATION (If Applicable): MCCC, Senior Special Programs Coordinator

ANTICIPATED START DATE: June 29, 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.

SALARY RANGE: This position is a Professional Staff Grade 5 classification per MCCC. The salary range is $72,265 to $77,265. Actual salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience in accordance with the MCCC collective bargaining agreement provisions.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

Greenfield Community College is seeking to hire a full-time faculty member for the Surgical Technology degree program. The Clinical Coordinator is responsible for collaborating with the Program Coordinator to ensure the organization, administration, continuous review, planning, development, and overall effectiveness of the clinical experiences for students enrolled in the Surgical Technology programs. This includes scheduling clinical assignments, preparing students through lab instruction, and maintaining strong relationships through regular communication with clinical affiliates. The clinical coordinator will ensure program compliance in alignment with accreditation standards and program goals, while supporting student success from clinical preparation through completion.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Oversees all clinical site activities, ensuring quality, consistency, and compliance with institutional policies, accreditation standards, program standards, and all applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinates and maintains open lab sessions and skills-based practice opportunities to support student learning and clinical readiness.
  • Ensures that laboratory and clinical skills are taught effectively, consistently, and in alignment with approved curriculum and learning outcomes.
  • Coordinates clinical site development, supervision, evaluation, and ongoing approval of clinical affiliates.
  • Assigns students to appropriate clinical sites based on program requirements, student readiness, and site capacity, in coordination with program leadership.
  • Prepares and distributes clinical packets containing all required documentation specific to each healthcare facility.
  • Ensures that all clinical documentation (before, during, and after the clinical experience) is safeguarded, accurately maintained, and retained for a minimum of seven (7) years in compliance with accreditation and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensures that all documentation required for students to begin and successfully complete clinical experiences is current, complete, approved, and properly signed.
  • Conducts clinical orientation for students eligible to begin the clinical experience portion of the program, including expectations, policies, and evaluation processes.
  • Instructs students on the organization, maintenance, confidentiality, and professional handling of clinical documentation.
  • Reviews and discusses attendance, professionalism, and performance expectations at clinical affiliate sites.
  • Monitors, evaluates, and documents students' clinical and laboratory performance, ensuring timely feedback and communication with students and faculty.
  • Monitors the clinical learning environment to ensure quality, safety, and a positive, inclusive educational experience for students.
  • Conducts routine visits to clinical sites to observe student performance, support clinical preceptors, and maintain effective communication with affiliate partners.
  • Reviews student evaluations and progression with students, faculty, and program leadership to support academic success and address concerns in a timely manner.
  • Maintains positive, professional, and collaborative working relationships with clinical affiliates, agencies, and external partners.
  • Creates and sustains a positive, supportive, and inclusive learning environment that promotes student success.
  • Supports curriculum review, development, and revision to ensure alignment with accreditation standards, industry expectations, and program outcomes.
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of departmental and clinical policies and procedures aligned with institutional, accreditation, and professional standards.
  • Maintains accurate program and clinical data required for accreditation, regulatory compliance, assessment, and reporting.
  • Participates in departmental meetings and program planning activities.
  • Contributes to Advisory Committee planning and attends meetings as required.
  • Supports accreditation processes, including preparation of documentation, ongoing compliance monitoring, and site visits.
  • Collaborates with faculty and program leadership on student retention strategies and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Engages in systematic program assessment, evaluation, and reporting related to clinical education.
  • Maintains professional competence through continuing education, professional service, and/or industry involvement.
  • Maintains required certifications and licensure in accordance with accrediting bodies and institutional policies.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:


MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduation from a Surgical Technology education program accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accrediting agency.
  • Current credential in Surgical Technology obtained through a national certification program accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
  • A minimum of three (3) years of documented professional experience within the past five (5) years as an operating room scrub technologist, a Surgical Technology instructor, or a combination of both.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Surgical Technology curriculum, including instructional content, clinical competencies, and learning outcomes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of student learning assessment and evaluation processes, including monitoring and documenting student performance.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current surgical technology procedures, instrumentation, professional standards, and best practices.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in evaluating and documenting student learning and performance
  • Knowledge of the Surgical Technology program and affiliate sites requirements, faculty and students' obligations, and relevant clinical documents
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with students, staff, faculty, and clinical sites
  • Ability to address student needs and resolve issues with diplomacy and tact
  • Commitment to the success of the students and the program
  • Interpersonal skills including questioning, listening and showing concern and respect for others
  • Solid writing skills to communicate effectively
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Integrity and commitment to comply with policies, regulations, and codes of conduct governing all aspects of job responsibilities
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite, including Excel
  • Knowledge of regulatory guidelines (e.g., HIPAA, OSHA) and accreditation standards

BACKGROUND CHECK: Candidates will be required to pass a Massachusetts Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check as well as a national background check per clinical requirements, as a condition of employment.
