General Summary:

Provides clinical dietetic services to patients, residents, and specialty outpatient clinics. Determines nutritional supplements, nourishments and enteral formulary. Supervises the provision of nutritional services to patients in assigned work area. Develops patient and residents’ menus.

Education, Licensure, Registration and Experience:

Bachelor’s or master's degree in nutrition
Completed dietetic internship
Up to six months to become fully proficient
Registered Dietitian Granted by CDR
Current/active Ohio License
Successful completion of DOP initial and reappointment

Essential Functions:

To maintain notes in patient's medical record which document care provided, including nutritional screens, assessments, and instructions given and patient progress.

To attend Resident care conferences.

To collaborate with other hospital services to plan and implement patient care as necessary in meeting the nutritional needs of the patient.

To visit patients regularly in assigned work area to determine adequacy and appropriateness of oral intake and response to nutritional therapies.

To attend lectures and seminars and workshops through state dietetic association and area colleges and medical staff lectures as appropriate.

Works weekend and holidays as assigned.

Provides nutritional care to patients in assigned area in a timely fashion according to standard policies and procedures.

Effectively communicates departmental, organization, and industry information to staff.

Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, residents families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.

Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter-and interdepartmentally to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives.

Approve/develop patient menus and nutritional supplements/nourishments.

Performing and documenting nutritional assessments and evaluating patient/resident tolerance to therapeutic diets and interventions when appropriate.

Maintaining pertinent patient data necessary to recommend or modify therapeutic diets as needed to meet the nutritional requirements of the patients.

Patient, family, and caretaker dietary counseling.

Functions independently to provide clinical dietetic services to all ages of patients.

Demonstrate active participation in the Antibiotic Stewardship and Infection Control programming as related to their individual role in facility.

All other duties as assigned.

Standards of Employment:

Attends all mandatory education programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety and regulatory compliance.

Appearance is professional, neat, clean, and appropriate for the work environment. Wears proper photo identification badge while on duty.

Maintains confidentiality of all hospital and patient information at all times, as observed by peers and management.

Attends monthly staff meetings and participates in monthly rounding process with manager to assure effective and timely two-way communications.

Participates in and completes required department specific education and training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to department safety and specific job-related hazards.

Follows safety and security policies including exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens.
