Clinical Director – Express Care Clinic (Albuquerque, NM)
Position Summary
The Clinical Director is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the delivery of high-quality clinical care and day-to-day operations at Express Care Clinic in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This role provides strategic and operational leadership to clinical and support staff, ensures compliance with all regulatory and quality standards, and actively develops and maintains a robust referral network to support clinic growth.
The ideal candidate is an experienced clinical leader with at least five years of supervisory experience in an outpatient, urgent care, or express care environment, a strong presence in the local healthcare community, and a proven ability to build and leverage referral relationships.
Key Responsibilities Clinical Leadership and Quality of Care
- Provide overall clinical leadership and direction for Express Care Clinic, ensuring safe, timely, and patient-centered care aligned with organizational standards and best practices.
- Establish, implement, and monitor clinical policies, procedures, and protocols to support high-quality, evidence-based care in an express/urgent care setting.
- Oversee clinical workflows, patient flow, and care coordination to optimize access, reduce wait times, and enhance the patient experience.
- Develop and monitor key quality metrics (e.g., patient satisfaction, clinical outcomes, throughput, safety indicators) and lead continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for providers and staff, supporting complex case review, clinical decision making, and escalation pathways.
Operations Oversight
- Provide day-to-day operational oversight of clinic functions, including staffing, scheduling, patient flow, and resource allocation.
- Collaborate with administrative and business leadership to align clinic operations with financial, productivity, and growth targets.
- Ensure effective utilization and maintenance of equipment, supplies, and technology to support efficient operations and high-quality care.
- Participate in annual budgeting and ongoing financial management, including monitoring revenue, expenses, and productivity benchmarks.
- Oversee compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, payer requirements, and accrediting standards relevant to outpatient/urgent care services.
- Develop and refine operational policies, workflows, and standard operating procedures to improve efficiency and consistency.
Staff Supervision and Development
- Directly supervise clinical and, as appropriate, support staff, including hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, performance evaluations, and corrective action.
- Foster a collaborative and accountable culture that supports staff engagement, professional growth, and high standards of clinical practice.
- Ensure appropriate staffing levels and skill mix, and work with scheduling to provide adequate coverage for clinic hours and anticipated patient volume.
- Lead regular team meetings, case conferences, and in-service trainings to support clinical excellence and operational alignment.
Referral Network and Community Relations
- Actively cultivate, maintain, and expand a strong referral network with primary care providers, specialists, hospitals, employer groups, and community partners in the Portland area.
- Represent Express Care Clinic at community events, professional meetings, and networking opportunities to increase visibility and drive referrals.
- Serve as a liaison between the clinic and referring providers to ensure excellent communication, timely feedback, and collaborative care.
- Work with marketing and outreach teams to develop strategies that promote clinic services and strengthen community and referral relationships.
Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure clinical and operational compliance with New Mexico laws, professional practice standards, and payer requirements for outpatient and urgent care services.
- Oversee documentation standards, chart audits, and quality assurance processes to support regulatory readiness and risk mitigation.
- Lead or coordinate preparation for inspections, surveys, and audits by regulatory and accrediting bodies.
- Identify and address clinical and operational risks, implementing corrective action plans and policy updates as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Current, unrestricted clinical license in Oregon (e.g., MD/DO, NP, PA, RN, LCSW, LPC, LMFT, or other relevant discipline), in good standing.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a healthcare-related field, nursing, behavioral health, healthcare administration, or related discipline; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive supervisory or management experience in a clinical setting, preferably in outpatient, urgent care, express care, or primary care.
- Demonstrated experience overseeing clinic operations, including staffing, scheduling, workflow optimization, and performance management.
- Proven track record of building and maintaining a strong referral network and professional relationships within the local healthcare community.
- Strong knowledge of outpatient/urgent care regulations, quality standards, and best practices
- Excellent communication, leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior clinical leadership experience in an urgent care, express care, or walk-in clinic setting.
- Experience working with commercial, Medicaid, and Medicare payers, including understanding of utilization, coding, and reimbursement patterns.
- Familiarity with value-based care, population health, or employer-based clinic models.
- Experience leading quality improvement projects and using data to drive operational and clinical decisions.
- Existing established referral relationships in the Portland metro area, including with primary care practices, specialists, and hospital systems.
Work Schedule and Environment
- Full-time, exempt leadership position. Evening or weekend hours may be required based on clinic needs.
- Primarily onsite at Express Care Clinic, with occasional local travel for outreach and referral development.
- Work environment includes front- and back-office clinical settings with direct interaction with patients, staff, and community partners.
Pay: $35.00 - $50.00 per hour
