Position Description

Company: Children’s Advocacy Center of Van Zandt County

Reports to: Executive Director and Board of Directors

Status: Exempt

Pay Grade: Full Time

Education: Master’s degree in appropriate mental health field (e.g., LPC, MSW) with current certification

Experience: Minimum of five years’ experience (or equivalent) in direct clinical services to abused children and their families. Ability and experience in providing clinical supervision, training, and guidance to therapists-in-training.

Supervises: Contract and Employee Therapist(s)

Summary: Under the authority of the Executive Director and the Board of Directors, provides supervision and direction to the mental health component of client services of the Children’s Advocacy Center of Van Zandt County (CACVZC). Provides and/or coordinates therapeutic counseling/intervention services to child abuse victims and the non-offending caregivers/family members. Works in partnership with other CACVZC staff, a Mental Health Advisory Committee, Law Enforcement, Child Protective Services, District Attorney’s offices, medical personnel and other key members to mobilize and strengthen the multidisciplinary approach to the prevention, intervention, investigation, treatment and prosecution of child abuse in Van Zandt County.

Essential Functions:

  • Ensures that clients of the CACVZC receive appropriate mental health services in a timely manner
  • Assigns therapy referrals to therapists/interns
  • Provides clinical supervision of CACVZC cases for therapists/interns
  • Provides consultation and representation in cases that may be prosecuted
  • Trains new therapists/interns on the Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy model
  • Plans and supervises group therapy facilitation by therapists
  • Provide a continuum of care to ensure child abuse victims access services including therapeutic intervention using a Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Model.
  • Provide client intake, crisis intervention, and assessment of needs as indicated
  • Works closely with the Executive Director to maintain a well-organized, high-quality mental health program at the CACVZC
  • Oversees data collection, data storing, and participates with the Executive Director in analyzing therapy progress/outcome data.
  • Works closely with the Family Advocate staffer in the areas of referrals to therapy as well as planning and facilitation of family support groups.
  • Attends MDT and reports services each family has been referred to for follow up.
  • Encourages timely submission of required paperwork from therapy staff
  • Agrees to represent the agency as spokesperson as requested to ensure community recognition of the mission of the CACVZC.
  • Works in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team/partner agencies and other key supporters to assure positive public relations in the community and at agency-related conferences, meetings, etc.
  • Stays current on funding appropriations, development and implementation of public policy in order to further enhance and protect the CACVZC model, and advocate on behalf of children.
  • Provides support to the mental health staff in areas such as family contact, evaluation, conflict resolution and outcome measurement.
  • Attends court trials as needed to provide support to the families that have accessed CACVZC services.

Measurable Deliverables:

  • Monthly/Quarterly/Annual reports for Therapy Services activities
  • Client Documentation completed timely per protocols in database system
  • Annual needs assessment for therapy department and community needs completed with recommendations for department development

Other Responsibilities:

  • Presents and maintains professional appearance and demeanor; adheres to dress code of position/work area.
  • Provide weekly/monthly supervision and annual evaluation of therapy staffers
  • Is courteous to all clients, visitors and staff.
  • Other job duties as assigned.

Credential, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have a telephone, reliable transportation, a valid Texas Driver’s License or State Issued ID.
  • Ability to pass a criminal history check and CPS Registry check.
  • Maintain certification in Trauma Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy-Training
  • Ability and experience in providing clinical supervision, training, and guidance to therapists-in-training.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with a variety of clients, staffers, and community partners.
  • Strong leadership and managerial capability and the ability to evaluate and supervise therapists.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, facilitation skills and a collaborative management approach is required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook, and Power Point.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate the importance of proper therapeutic techniques and adherence to the highest ethical standards regarding client-therapist relationships.
  • Knowledge and commitment to adhere to ethical standards in own mental health field.
  • Knowledge of assessment and research in the mental health field and willingness to participate in data collection, storage, and analyzing of same for program effectiveness.
  • Knowledge of most recent research and interventions proven effective with abused children and families.
  • Maintains appropriate licensure, credentials, continuing education for supervising therapists
  • Experience with diverse cultures, languages, and situations.
  • Ability to communicate well orally and in writing.
  • Experience working with children and families in crisis.
  • Knowledge of and experience in working with child abuse issues.
  • Ability to organize a variety of tasks and deal with a variety of people.
  • Excellent telephone and computer skills.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) abilities highly desirable but not required.
  • Possess ability to collaborate and interact well with team members from various disciplines such as law enforcement, medical, mental health, Child Protective Services, and prosecutors.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $62,500.00 per year
