- Data accuracy and integrity: Ensure the completeness and accuracy of records by checking for errors and verifying information. This may also involve transcribing medical information from doctors' notes.
- Information release: Process requests for medical records from patients, other healthcare providers, and insurance companies. This requires verifying the legitimacy of requests and ensuring proper authorization before releasing information.
- Compliance and privacy: Adhere to all legal and regulatory requirements, such as HIPAA, to maintain the confidentiality and security of patient information.
- System maintenance: Work with and update electronic health record (EHR) systems. This can involve inputting data, troubleshooting basic technical issues, and helping with the implementation of new systems.
- Auditing and reporting: Assist with departmental audits and investigations. They may also analyze patient data to compile statistics for hospital administration.
- Team collaboration: Work closely with healthcare professionals to streamline processes and ensure that medical staff have access to the necessary patient data.
