Clinical Education Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY:

The Clinical Education Coordinator collaborates with leaders and team members across departments to assess, plan, develop, implement, facilitate, evaluate and revise educational programs for all levels of clinical personnel as indicated or requested. Serves to support orientation, competency programs, in-services education, continuing education, academic partnerships, and career development for CARTI coworkers. Serves as an oncology/peri-operative leader and CARTI representative in the local community by active involvement in ONS/AORN professional organizations.


SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assesses plans, develops, implements, and evaluates comprehensive education programs to meet the orientation, ongoing competency, and professional development needs of the CARTI leadership and staff, with a specific focus on clinical team members.
  • Ensures all programs meet CARTI and regulatory expectations and standards. Adheres to national education practice standards, stays abreast of current research, and incorporates current research into nursing education practice.
  • Provides consultation to enhance continuing education, professional development, and mentorship opportunities.
  • Develops and delivers/coordinates other educational programs as directed (e.g., Nursing school student affiliations and guest lecturing, in-services, continuing education, job-specific and specialty curricula) to support the competence and professional growth of CARTI clinical staff.
  • Develop curricula that reflect evidence-based practice and use the appropriate teaching methods to accommodate learning styles and the learning environment.
  • Develops and implements the preceptor program to enhance the orientation process and staff retention. Provides leadership to preceptors and serves as a role model through educational programs and ongoing coaching and mentoring.
  • Assists in the development of clinical policies and procedures as requested.
  • Mentors’ colleagues, other nurses, students, and others as appropriate.
  • Engage as an educator in clinical specialties on a local, state, or national level to determine clinical education, practice, and regulation trends affecting our clinical staff.
  • Acts as an administrator for the RQI and Medtrainer platform systems.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, REGISTRATION:

  • Possess a valid and current state RN license in good standing. BSN, CNS, CNE, NPD preferred.
  • BLS/ACLS certification to be completed within 3 months of hire and remain current.
  • Current chemotherapy certification or program completion within six months of hire, OCN/CNOR/VA board certification completion within 1 year of hire.
  • Membership in professional organizations, ONS, AORN, AVA, preferred, and once hired, required.
  • Must possess a current driver’s license in good standing.

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

  • Minimum 5 years’ clinical experience in direct patient care.
  • Minimum 3 years of education/teaching experience in a clinical setting.
  • Experience in oncology is preferred.
  • Experience in Perioperative nursing preferred.
  • Knowledge of USP 800 is preferred.
  • Must display expert knowledge of teaching concepts and principles.
  • Skills with Microsoft Office, LMS systems, RQI administrative skills, PowerPoint, Canva, Google Slides, and educational AI platforms.
  • Knowledge of various licensing boards and certification requirements: RNs, LPNs, APRNs, MAs, CNAs, CRNAs, CTs, RT’s.

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or scheduled form.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

  • Must interact and communicate both verbally and in written form.
  • Must interact and exchange information regarding patients with physicians and other departmental personnel, and outside agencies frequently while respecting the confidentiality of patient information.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Speaking voice must carry in a large room at times.
  • The employee must regularly stand, walk, and sit for long periods.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, the ability to adjust focus to computer work, and adequate vision for driving.
  • This position involves potential exposure to infectious diseases, radiation, and Hazardous Chemotherapy drugs.
