The Clinical Informatics Lead serves as a clinical leader and frontline partner in optimizing Epic for patient care, provider efficiency, and team-based workflows. This role focuses on supporting clinicians in the practical use of Epic, identifying pain points, improving templates and tools, and helping translate clinical operations into effective EHR workflows.
The Clinician Informatics Lead role is a 0.2 FTE position that emphasizes provider support, workflow customization, adoption, training, and continuous improvement rather than formal system build ownership or metric reporting. The position bridges clinical practice, operations, IT, The Learning Well, and OCHIN/Epic resources to ensure Epic works well for end users and supports high-quality, efficient care.
Reporting Relationship
Reports to the CMO, with close partnership to EHR support teams.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provider Support & Workflow Optimization

Serve as a trusted peer resource for medical providers and clinical staff regarding Epic use, efficiency, and workflow improvement.

Provide one-on-one and group coaching to clinicians on Epic tools, documentation workflows, in-basket management, ordering, scheduling workflows, and best practices.

Identify common provider pain points and recommend practical solutions to improve usability and reduce friction.

Support specialty and site-specific customization needs within approved governance processes.

Assist in development and refinement of SmartPhrases, SmartSets, templates, preference lists, note tools, and personalization resources.
Training & Change Management

Assist with training related to Epic upgrades, new tools, and workflow changes.

Develop tip sheets, quick guides, and practical learning resources for clinicians.

Promote adoption of standardized workflows while recognizing specialty and site needs.

Utilize Epic Signal data to identify variation in clinician workflows, prioritize optimization opportunities, and target education or support interventions that improve efficiency, adoption, and user experience.

Works as needed with Epic Trainers to support onboarding of new providers through Epic orientation, workflow training, and ongoing mentorship.
Liaison & Collaboration

Serve as a clinical liaison between providers, IT, operations, OCHIN/Epic analysts.

Gather end-user feedback and help prioritize requests for optimization or system changes.

Participate in committees or workgroups related to EHR governance, workflow design, and clinical operations.

Support testing and validation of changes impacting clinical workflows before implementation.
Continuous Improvement

Monitor trends in support requests and recurring workflow barriers.

Recommend improvements that enhance provider efficiency, patient experience, quality documentation, and team-based care.

Help sustain a culture of continuous learning and thoughtful EHR use across the organization.
Qualifications:
Required:
-
Active professional licensure in a clinical discipline (MD, DO, NP, PA, DMD, RN, LCSW, PsyD, or equivalent role as applicable).

Minimum 2 years of clinical experience using Epic in a healthcare setting.

Strong working knowledge of ambulatory Epic workflows.

Demonstrated ability to teach peers and explain technical concepts in practical clinical terms.

Excellent interpersonal communication, facilitation, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work collaboratively across departments and levels of the organization.
Preferred:
-
Experience as an Epic Super User, trainer, champion, or provider lead.

Epic certification or formal Epic/OCHIN training.

Experience in Federally Qualified Health Center or community health center settings.

Experience supporting change management or workflow redesign initiatives.
