Clinical Instructor, Respiratory Therapy Program

The clinical instructor will be a key member of the respiratory therapy program, responsible for delivering clinical and laboratory instruction to undergraduate students as part of a collaborative team.
Minimum Qualifications
Required:
  • Associate Degree or higher in Respiratory Therapy. Note: Degrees and hours must be from a college accredited by a US Dept of Education accepted accrediting agency such as SACSCOC.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential.
  • Active North Carolina Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment.

Essential Duties
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: including the following along with other duties as assigned to support the team and organization.
  • Provide direct clinical instruction and supervision to respiratory therapy students in assigned healthcare settings, ensuring a safe and effective learning environment.
  • Facilitate student application of classroom knowledge to clinical practice, including patient assessment, airway management, oxygen therapy, and mechanical ventilation.
  • Evaluate student performance in the clinical setting using established program and accreditation standards; provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Ensure student compliance with clinical site policies, professional standards, and all safety and infection control protocols.
  • maintain appropriate student-to-instructor ratios in accordance with accreditation and institutional requirements.
  • Collaborate with program faculty to support student progression and address performance concerns.
  • Complete and submit required documentation, including clinical evaluations, attendance records, and incident reports, in a timely manner.
  • Server as a liaison between the college and clinical affiliates, supporting strong partnerships with healthcare organizations.
  • Model professional behavior, ethical practice, and effective communication in alignment with program expectations and industry standards.
  • Participate in program orientation, required training, and periodic faculty meetings as needed.
  • Assume responsibility for maintaining all required college records including attendance and grade reports.
  • Make recommendations to the clinical education coordinator and program coordinator for supplies, equipment, and equipment repairs.
  • Assume responsibility for being familiar with and adhering to all policies of the college.
  • Attend specialized training activities that enhance job performance.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive information.
  • Pursue continuous improvement in the areas of subject matter expertise; teaching and learning; the use of educational technology and other areas related to the strategic goals of the college.
  • Facilitate the learning process by designing and implementing inclusive instructional activities that are appropriate and meaningful.
