Clinical Lab Scientist- Night Shift

SUMMARY:

Performs specialized clinical laboratory testing in all clinical laboratory disciplines. Performs and reports results, proof tests and assumes responsibility for accuracy.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Utilizes laboratory computer systems to document all actions taken concerning patient and quality control testing.
  • Performs laboratory testing following laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Performs and documents instrument calibrations following manufacturers’ guidelines.
  • Performs routine preventative maintenance following laboratory policies and procedures and manufacturers’ guidelines.
  • Performs quality control testing as required in laboratory policies and procedures. All remedial actions taken for out of control results will be documented.
  • Performs STAT testing in a timely manner and has the ability to organize testing priorities during heavy workload situations to expedite patient testing results.
  • Relays Panic Values to ordering service and documents all actions taken.
  • Follows laboratory safety policies and procedures including Standard Precautions.


OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Performs venous and arterial puncture to obtain specimens for laboratory testing.

  • Maintains clean work area and adequate supplies and reagents.
  • Assists in researching and implementing new testing procedures.
  • Assists in training and supervision of Laboratory Assistants.
  • Supervises lab assistants and phlebotomists on weekends and after office hours.
  • Other duties as assigned from time to time.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None


EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Good manual dexterity and ability to follow instructions.


LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION:

  • Four-year college degree with a valid Clinical Laboratory License issued by the State of California Department of Health Services required.
