Clinical Laboratory Scientist - Full Time PM Shift

POSITION TITLE: Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS)

REPORTS TO (TITLE): MedicalLaboratory Director

EMPLOYEE PAY STATUS: Non-Exempt

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

This position description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification. It is not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties, responsibilities, and qualifications which may be required of the employee assigned to the position.

The role of the Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) within Laboratory Services is to provide evaluation and clinical testing support to ensure quality processes for testing, evaluating, and resulting of laboratory specimens in accordance with hospital-wide laboratory services and associated programs. This includes verbal/teleconference/on-site consultation, performance of reports, communication of results, and resolution of normal / abnormal results reports as well as other laboratory service priorities aligned with organizational goals.

Minimum Requirements:

Education and Licensing:

  • Education to meet certification, license or registration as Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) Generalist

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years in a medical/laboratory setting (may include internship time).
  • Current Clinical Laboratory Scientist and maintain current.
  • Current AHA BLS certification and maintain current.
  • MAB certification within 60 days of employment.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to deal effectively with many people across a broad range of cultural backgrounds and ages.
  • Ability to perform laboratory testing across multiple platforms and perform phlebotomy when required.
  • Follows the unit program and is familiar with the policies and procedures for the unit.
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision
  • Completes annual educational requirements and maintains regulatory requirements.
  • Proficient in P.C. software applications including, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, etc.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and coordinate work.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and appropriately prioritize
  • Accepts feedback in a positive manner and applies it to improve performance and further learning.
  • Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
  • Ability to clearly communicate with internal/external customers, including, but not limited to, patients, co-workers, management, physicians, and visitors.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and privacy in accordance to hospital policy.
  • Follows all safety procedures; is alert to changing situations and contributes to preventing opportunities for danger to develop.
  • Speaks with authority in a calm and clear voice, uses proper selection of words and has knowledge of when and how to use them.
  • Answers the telephone in a professional manner; directs calls appropriately, and takes messages.
  • Maintains a good working relationship within the department and with other departments.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, this position is frequently required to do the following:

  • Use standard office equipment and access, input, and retrieve information from a computer. Use computer keyboard with manual and finger dexterity and wrist-finger speed sufficient to perform repetitive actions efficiently for extended periods of time.
  • Communicate effectively in person or via telephone in a manner which can be understood by those with whom the person is speaking, including a diverse population.
  • Give and follow verbal and written instructions with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Perform complex mental functions and basic arithmetic functions; interpret complex laws, regulations, and policies; collect, interpret, and/or analyze complex data and information.
  • Vision: see details of objects at close range.
  • Coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Reach forward, up, down, and to the side.
  • Sit or stand for minimum periods of one hour at a time and come and go from the work area repeatedly throughout the day.
  • Lift up to twenty (20) pounds.

Pay: $45.00 - $55.00 per hour
