Clinical Laboratory Scientist I

We are currently looking for a Full Time Clinical Laboratory Scientist I to join our Laboratory Group team located at the Chickasaw Nation Medical Center.

Summary:
Provides clinical laboratory services consisting of moderate to high complexity testing without direct supervision.

Responsibilities:
  • Assesses test results and reliability of testing procedures and identify instrument malfunctions, reagent failures, specimen interference, etc., that may affect test results
  • Follows laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, tests analyses and reports and maintains records of test results
  • Provides patients with instructions regarding specimen collection, diet instructions, etc.
  • Performs laboratory testing for specimen processing and test performance
  • Performs and documents instrument and procedure calibrations, maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Assesses specimens for acceptability for testing and accession into laboratory workflow
  • Assists internal customers in ensuring appropriate tests are ordered with proper specimen requirements
  • Assigns results and conducts further examinations or take additional or alternate actions as appropriate
  • Performs proficiency testing according to Laboratory policy
  • Follows laboratory quality control and quality assurance protocols. Documents all quality control activities
  • Notifies the Senior Technologist and/or instrument service personnel for any unscheduled maintenance needs
  • Takes and documents corrective action or immediately notify the Senior/Clinic Technologist or Laboratory Manager
  • Notifies providers of critical values and STAT results as specified in the Laboratory Policy Manual
  • Performs inpatient and outpatient phlebotomy when needed
  • Assists in maintaining a friendly, clean, safe and neat work environment
  • Maintains, restocks, and orders inventory and supplies under the direction of the Laboratory Manager or Senior/Clinic Technologist
  • Assists the Senior Technologist in each section as directed
  • Provides first class customer service - courteous and helpful to all internal and external customer types

Skills:
Essential:
  • Basic Computer skills
  • Skilled in operating a computer and/or other equipment related to specific role (i.e. automated currency counters, calculator, projector, binding machine, other related office equipment)

  • 1 year directly related experience

Education:
Essential:
  • Associates of Science

Nonessential:
  • Bachelors of Science

Essential:
  • Associate's degree in medical laboratory science, medical technology, or medical laboratory technician from an accredited institution. Qualifying education must be within previous five years.
Nonessential:
  • Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science, medical technology, or medical laboratory technician from an accredited institution preferred. Qualifying education must be within previous five years.
Credentials:
Essential:
  • Pass general background check

Nonessential:
  • American Medical Technologist
  • American Society of Clinical Pathology

Nonessential:
  • High complexity lab (CNMC): CLS I must be certified upon employment or within the one-year probationary period in order to retain position. Moderate complexity lab (Satellite clinics): Uncertified CLS I may retain position based upon education.
  • High complexity lab (CNMC): CLS I must be certified upon employment or within the one-year probationary period in order to retain position. Moderate complexity lab (Satellite clinics): Uncertified CLS I may retain position based upon education.
