Clinical Nursing Director

About Marina Orthopedic and Spine Institute

We are a growing ambulatory surgery center specializing in Orthopedics, Spine, and Pain Management, including an established Total Joint Replacement (TJR) program supported by a full-time Nurse Navigator. Marina Orthopedic and Spine Institute is part of Commons Clinic and serves the greater Los Angeles community.

Facility Snapshot:

  • 40+ surgeons on staff
  • 3 operating rooms
  • 10 Pre-op / PACU bays
  • 23-hour stays for select procedures
  • Full-time staff includes RNs, scrub techs, fluoroscopy techs, SPD, EVS/PCT, front office, and materials management

We operate as a close-knit, highly collaborative team. Our staff communicate openly, support one another, and take pride in delivering high-quality, efficient care. Several nurses are cross-trained across the OR and Pre-op/PACU, and we actively invest in continued cross-training to ensure flexibility, strong coverage, and ongoing professional development.

This role is ideal for a nursing leader who values hands-on leadership, team cohesion, and operational excellence in a high-performing ASC environment.

About The Role

The Clinical Nursing Director provides leadership and oversight for all nursing and perioperative services within the surgery center. This is a hands-on leadership role well suited for either:

  • An experienced ASC Nurse, or
  • A strong OR leader (Charge Nurse, OR Manager, or Lead RN) who is ready to step into a Nursing Director role with support.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys being present in the clinical environment, supporting staff, and helping a small but growing ASC continue to mature. HR-heavy duties are intentionally limited allowing the Clinical Nursing Director to focus on clinical leadership, workflow, quality, and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and clinical oversight for nursing and perioperative services
  • Oversee OR workflow, assist with case flow, and help coordinate the daily surgery schedule
  • Relieve staff for lunches and breaks and provide hands-on clinical support as needed
  • Circulate cases as needed (training provided)
  • Work closely with staff, surgeons, anesthesiologists, and medical device representatives to proactively resolve issues
  • Partner with the Total Joint Replacement Nurse Navigator to support patient flow and outcomes
  • Lead QAPI and quality improvement initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with CMS, AAAHC accreditation, and regulatory requirements
  • Support infection prevention, emergency preparedness, and policy implementation
  • Promote teamwork and cross-training across OR and Pre-op/PACU
  • This position does not include employee scheduling (handled by two Charge Nurses: OR and Pre-op/PACU), and all employee management and disciplinary actions are handled by the Administrator

Education, Experience, and Licensure

  • Current RN license (unrestricted)
  • BSN required; MSN preferred
  • ASC DON experience preferred, but not required
  • OR leadership experience (Charge Nurse, OR Manager, Lead RN, or similar) strongly encouraged to apply
  • Orthopedic and/or spine experience strongly preferred
