Shalom Institute of Mental Health and Research is a leading psychiatric and de-addiction center dedicated to research, rehabilitation, and innovation in mental health care. The institute’s multidisciplinary team includes five psychiatrists, one physician, a clinical psychologist, mental health professionals, nurses, and a skilled support staff. SIMHAR is affiliated with CMAI and licensed by the State Mental Health Authority of Kerala

SIMHAR offers comprehensive solution for the mentally ill. The hospital also offers specialized treatment for schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder,post-traumatic stress disorder, de-addiction treatment for people with alcohol addiction, drug addiction, depression, children with various behavioural problems and institutionalized care for geriaric psychiatric patients. Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and RCI-registered Clinical Psychologist to join our multidisciplinary team. The ideal candidate will provide expert psychological assessment, diagnostic services, and evidence-based therapeutic interventions for patients with acute and chronic psychiatric conditions. You will play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between medical treatment and psychosocial rehabilitation, working closely with psychiatrists, psychiatric social workers, and nursing staff to ensure holistic patient care.

Key Responsibilities

1. Clinical Assessment & Diagnosis

  • Conduct comprehensive intake interviews and mental status examinations (MSE).
  • Administer, score, and interpret standardized psychometric tests (IQ, Personality, Neuropsychological, Diagnostic) to aid psychiatrists in differential diagnosis.
  • Prepare detailed clinical reports documenting findings and treatment recommendations in a timely manner.

2. Psychotherapeutic Interventions

  • formulate and implement individualized treatment plans based on evidence-based practices (CBT, DBT, MET, Supportive Psychotherapy, etc.).
  • Conduct individual therapy sessions for patients dealing with depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, substance use disorders, and personality disorders.
  • Facilitate Group Therapy sessions (e.g., psychoeducation, social skills training, relapse prevention) for inpatient and rehabilitation groups.
  • Provide Family Therapy and counseling to caregivers to reduce high expressed emotion and support the patient's recovery journey.

3. Rehabilitation & Ward Management

  • Participate in daily/weekly ward rounds with the psychiatric team to discuss patient progress.
  • Design behavioral modification plans for chronic patients or those requiring habit restructuring.
  • Assist in the vocational and social rehabilitation of long-term patients, focusing on functional recovery and community reintegration.

4. Crisis Intervention & Risk Management

  • Assess suicide risk and self-harm potential; implement immediate safety plans and crisis interventions.
  • De-escalate acute behavioral disturbances in collaboration with the nursing and security staff.

5. Training & Documentation

  • Maintain accurate and confidential electronic/physical medical records in compliance with hospital policy and ethical standards.
  • Supervise and train psychology interns or junior staff (if applicable).
  • Conduct psychoeducation workshops for staff or the community as required.
