Clinical Research Assistant – Effects of Physical Activity on Cognitive & Psychological Functioning

Palo Alto Veterans Institute for Research (PAVIR) is seeking a part-time Clinical Research Assistant. The Clinical Research Assistant will test study subjects for research of the effects of physical activity on cognitive and psychological functioning. In addition, the Research Assistant will work with Principal Investigator(s) and other staff by performing various activities related to enrollment, compliance, ongoing coordination, review of medical information, and data management.


This a part-time, 8 hours/week, position, located in Palo Alto, CA.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in subject recruitment and screening for study participation
  • Participate in subject testing and evaluation to include cognitive and psychosocial measures and screening interviews;
  • Assist in subject testing and evaluation to include exercise testing, activity monitoring, activity questionnaires, cardiovascular evaluation, health monitoring, surveillance and cardiac risk reduction.
  • Responsible for data management, including database creation, input and error-checking, as well as statistical analyses;
  • Maintain study records, both hard copy and electronic.
  • Interact and coordinate with research team, medical center clinical staff, and other personnel for subject scheduling and other research-related activities.
  • Coordinate and train other staff members in study activities.
  • Perform study-related administrative and organizational tasks.
  • Other tasks as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Required: A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience;
  • 1-2 years of related experience in a research environment; Experience screening and testing patients;
  • Desired: Master's and/or Ph.D. student;
  • 2+ years of related experience in a health care setting; Experience working with Veterans is a plus;
  • Knowledge of aging and aging related disorders;
  • Knowledge of psychological assessment;
  • Knowledge and experience with data management and statistical analyses;
  • Proficiency with Word and Excel;
  • Organizational/management skills;
  • Ability to interact professionally with clinical team members and research participants;
  • Excellent communication and writing skills;
  • Capable of working independently.
