Job Summary
Supervises clinical staff in departments to assure optimal patient care is provided and regulatory compliance is maintained. Essential Functions
• Functions clinically at the highest level within RN scope of practice. • Demonstrates core leadership competencies (e.g., building a successful team, building organizational talent, building partnerships, coaching and developing others, using compelling communication, driving execution, leading change, leading through vision and values, selecting talent, focusing on the customer, financial acumen). • Supervises clinical staff to assure they function within and up to the limits of scope of practice as allowed by licensure/certification. • Prioritizes opportunities to develop employees at all levels which encourages transparency, collaboration, and an atmosphere where all employees feel respected and valued. • Directs clinical operations, including continuous improvement, key performance metrics, appropriate staffing, inventory control processes and facilitates purchasing in accordance with established procedures. • Understands and utilizes clinical scorecard measures to benchmark, monitor, and improve clinical, financial and operational performance. • Recruits, develops, and motivates clinical staff to ensure a highly-engaged and values-focused department. • Supports use of standardized Continuous Improvement tools and methodologies to achieve high value performance in all functional areas within scope of position. • Assesses clinical workflows; identifies and implements best practices that promote standardization throughout the organization. • Participates in departmental LEAN projects, compliance audits and quality monitors. • Coordinates with Department Leader and Human Resources in managing resources and meeting departmental operating and capital budgets. • Ensures accurate and compliant coding practices, training staff and providers to do the same, as applicable. • Collaborates with Providers on activities and projects related to direct patient care and participates in provider department meetings. • Oversees management of department medication stocks and monitors compliance with medication administration. • Collaborates with community health organizations and health care providers across the organization. • Demonstrates accountability and follows through on assignments, projects, and tasks. • Conducts training activities with staff and providers to support operational functions. • In coordination with Department Leader, maintains effective staffing levels and adequate scheduling. • Understands department processes, policies, and procedures to ensure ongoing compliance with federal, state, organization policy, and other regulatory agencies. • Ensures compliance with all SRH policies and procedures, universal attributes and Service Standards. • Manages and coordinates special projects as needed. • Ensures appropriate assessment and process resolution of compliance and regulatory issues. • Collaborates with other managers as well as HR, Risk, Plant Operations, Information Systems, etc. to coordinate problem solving, training, personnel management and systems development. • Complies with Skagit Regional Health Policies and Procedures. • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education
Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred.
Experience/Training
Previous supervisory experience; two years’ experience in an ambulatory clinical setting preferred.
License/Certifications
Current Washington State RN license and American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS required.
Other Skills
Ability to work independently with small and large groups of professionals; ability to problem solve, set priorities, plan and schedule workload to meet deadlines. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; strong organizational skills; clinical proficiency. Competent in the use of technology including Microsoft Office and an electronic health record.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping or crouching. The employee must occasionally lift or move objects and patients weighing over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit for long periods of time when working in office. Repetitive tasks such as typing, sitting, answering phones, and interacting with computers and computer systems most of the day is a function of the position.
