Position Overview
The Clinical Support – Operations Pharmacist is a cross-functional role supporting community pharmacy operations, institutional/micro-hospital pharmacy services, and remote pharmacy operations for partner healthcare facilities.
This role supports patients, providers, nursing staff, operational leadership, and healthcare partners through clinical oversight, medication management, operational workflow optimization, regulatory compliance, inventory oversight, and remote pharmacy support services.
Pharmacists may rotate between operational, clinical, and remote support responsibilities depending on business demands, facility needs, staffing priorities, licensing coverage, and partner institution requirements.
This position requires flexibility, strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, operational leadership capabilities, and the ability to function effectively in fast-paced healthcare environments.
Core Responsibilities Community Pharmacy Responsibilities
- Verify and dispense prescriptions accurately and efficiently
- Provide patient counseling and medication education
- Conduct prospective drug utilization review (DUR)
- Review prescriptions for appropriateness, interactions, allergies, contraindications, and dosing accuracy
- Manage controlled substance dispensing in compliance with federal and state regulations
- Support medication synchronization and refill management programs
- Provide clinical recommendations to patients and prescribers
- Assist with prior authorizations and insurance-related clinical support
- Support immunization and clinical service programs when applicable
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA and patient confidentiality standards
- Oversee non-sterile compounding activities when applicable
Institutional / Hospital Responsibilities
- Support institutional Class II pharmacy operations
- Perform medication order verification and clinical review
- Support remote pharmacy order verification services for partner institutions
- Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and clinical teams regarding medication therapy management
- Verify medication orders for accuracy, dosing, contraindications, compatibility, renal/hepatic adjustments, and therapeutic appropriateness
- Support emergency department and acute care medication workflows
- Assist with formulary management and medication utilization initiatives
- Oversee automated dispensing cabinet (ADC) workflows and medication distribution systems
- Support medication reconciliation and transition-of-care processes
- Participate in medication safety, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance activities
- Assist with pharmacy audits, inspections, policy development, and operational readiness
- Provide after-hours or urgent pharmacy support when required
- Participate in pharmacy and therapeutics (P&T) initiatives when applicable
Remote Pharmacy Operations
- Perform remote medication order verification for in-state and out-of-state partner institutions
- Utilize EHR, pharmacy management systems, and telecommunication platforms efficiently
- Maintain strong remote communication with nurses, providers, and operational teams
- Support remote clinical consultation and medication-related problem resolution
- Ensure timely turnaround for remote pharmacy services
- Maintain operational awareness across multiple healthcare facilities simultaneously
- Assist with remote workflow optimization and operational troubleshooting
Inventory Management & Operational Oversight
- Oversee medication inventory management and controlled substance accountability
- Monitor high-cost medication utilization and operational efficiencies
- Assist with medication purchasing optimization and shortage management
- Participate in inventory audits and discrepancy investigations
- Assist with operational analytics and workflow improvement initiatives
- Support regulatory compliance related to storage, handling, documentation, and medication security
- Assist leadership with operational planning and strategic initiatives
Leadership & Team Support
- Support and supervise pharmacy technicians and support staff
- Assist with technician training, workflow delegation, and competency development
- Promote a positive, collaborative, and professional work environment
- Participate in development and implementation of operational policies and procedures
- Assist with onboarding and operational training initiatives
- Provide conflict resolution and operational problem-solving support
- Serve as a clinical and operational resource for pharmacy and healthcare staff
Required QualificationsEducation & Licensure
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or equivalent degree from an accredited school of pharmacy
- Active Pharmacist license in Florida in good standing
- Ability to obtain additional state pharmacist licenses as operational needs evolve
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record preferred
