Position Overview
The Clinical Support – Operations Pharmacy Technician is a cross-functional role supporting both community pharmacy operations and institutional/micro-hospital pharmacy services.
This role supports pharmacists, providers, nursing staff, patients, and operational leadership by assisting with medication management, inventory control, medication distribution systems, pharmacy technology platforms, operational workflows, and regulatory compliance activities.
Team members may rotate between operational responsibilities depending on business demands, facility needs, staffing priorities, and client support requirements.
This role requires flexibility, professionalism, operational awareness, strong communication skills, and the ability to perform accurately in fast-paced healthcare environments.
Core Responsibilities
Community Pharmacy Responsibilities
- Process prescriptions accurately and efficiently
- Enter prescription data and maintain patient profiles
- Prepare, label, package, and stage medications for dispensing
- Coordinate refill requests and medication synchronization
- Process third-party insurance claims and troubleshoot rejections
- Assist with prior authorizations and provider communication
- Support point-of-sale and patient payment workflows
- Coordinate patient pickup, delivery, and courier workflows
- Provide exceptional customer service and patient communication
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and confidentiality standards
- Support non-sterile compounding activities when applicable
- Assist with medication ordering, receiving, and inventory organization
Institutional / Hospital Responsibilities
- Support institutional Class II pharmacy operations
- Assist with medication preparation and distribution workflows
- Replenish automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs)
- Perform medication cart fills, exchanges, and restocking
- Support emergency medication tray and crash cart processes
- Maintain accurate medication inventory and controlled substance documentation
- Assist with medication storage compliance and expiration date management
- Participate in hospital medication recall procedures
- Support sterile product workflow coordination under pharmacist supervision
- Assist nursing and providers with medication procurement and operational communication
- Support emergency department medication workflow efficiency
- Participate in pharmacy audits, inspections, and quality assurance activities
- Assist with pharmacy operations during urgent or after-hours situations
- Support medication waste documentation and reverse distribution workflows
Inventory Management & Analytics
- Maintain accurate inventory levels across pharmacy locations
- Monitor medication usage trends and shortages
- Perform cycle counts, audits, and discrepancy investigations
- Assist with purchasing optimization and inventory forecasting
- Track controlled substances and high-cost medication utilization
- Maintain accurate receiving and reconciliation records
- Assist with inventory analytics and operational reporting
- Monitor medication expiration dates and implement rotation processes
- Identify workflow inefficiencies and recommend operational improvements
Technology & Systems Support
- Utilize pharmacy management systems and institutional software platforms
- Work with automated dispensing cabinet systems
- Navigate EHR, medication management, and inventory systems
- Maintain accurate electronic documentation and reporting
- Assist with operational troubleshooting and workflow optimization
- Support remote communication systems and digital operational tools
- Maintain proficiency with Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, and reporting tools
Logistics & Operational Flexibility
- Travel between pharmacy and healthcare partner locations as needed
- Assist with medication deliveries and operational errands
- Support emergency operational coverage when required
- Cross-train in multiple operational departments
- Adapt quickly to evolving healthcare and operational demands
- Assist leadership with special operational projects and workflow initiatives
- Company vehicle may be provided for designated operational activities requiring transportation between facilities and partner locations
Required QualificationsEducation & Licensure
- Active Florida Registered Pharmacy Technician license in good standing
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record preferred
