Clinical Support Specialist - med device

Please note: this hybrid role requires candidates to be based in the Portland OR or Seattle WA areas, with 50–75% travel to client sites across the larger NW territory and the remaining time spent working from home (e.g., scheduling meetings, collaborating with the team, attending trainings, etc.)

The Clinical Support Specialist (CSS) serves as a field-based clinical expert, providing hands-on procedural support and real-time education in the GI endoscopic medical device space. This role is driven by customer demand and coordinated with Sales Representatives to support cases, ensure effective product use, and deliver high-quality clinical guidance across assigned accounts. Ideal candidates bring at least 3 years of clinical experience (e.g., RN, Surgical Tech) with strong hands-on expertise in GI endoscopy, including ERCP and cholangioscopy, as well as experience with advanced therapeutic procedures including POEM, EUS, EMR.

This role requires strong clinical judgment, initiative, and adaptability. The CSS will instruct and guide physicians, nurses, and technicians during procedures, troubleshoot in real time, and maintain composure in high-pressure environments. Successful candidates are confident communicators who can speak up in clinical settings, build trust quickly across diverse teams, and operate independently in a fast-paced, field-based role. The position reports to the Regional Sales Leader, with day-to-day coordination alongside Account Executives.

Responsibilities:

  • Become a subject matter expert quickly and continue to deepen product knowledge over time.
  • Represent our company ethically in all business dealings, and according to company policies.
  • Initiate and build strong relationships with external and internal clients through routine visits, product demonstrations, educational programs, product in-services, procedural observation, and problem resolution.
  • Educate, support, and train customers through hands-on procedural support, real-time instruction during cases, and follow-up education, in addition to phone consultation, training programs, and written correspondence.
  • Provide real-time procedural guidance and troubleshooting during cases, including the ability to confidently step in, direct, or correct technique as needed to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Support onboarding and ongoing development of clinical staff by training new technicians, nurses, and physicians on procedures and device usage, both formally and informally.
  • Serve as the primary resource for Account Executives: Support development of a successful sales territory of new and existing accounts in the territory; assist the sales team in the clinical support and adoption of product lines within that defined territory.
  • Educate customers on the merits and proper clinical usage of company products by giving presentations and demonstrations using a wide variety of formats and platforms to keep all customers abreast of the latest product, therapy, technology developments and current items of interest in the industry.  
  • Attend cases in the operating room of hospital and surgery center accounts.
  • Participate in cases and surgical/clinical observation by working with ambulatory surgery center medical staff.
  • Meet with existing and potential clients by traveling to their location to identify clinical needs, goals, and constraints related to patient care and to discuss and demonstrate how company products can help to achieve their goals.
  • Develop relationships with clinical personnel to establish contacts in other departments; identify key purchasing decision makers to support future sales.
  • Prepare detailed weekly reporting of activity within the territory.
  • Developing relationships with Micro-Tech Endoscopy sales and clinical staff to support their future sales achievements.    
  • Respond to customer needs regarding products and services.  
  • Occasional weekend and evening trade show and/or meeting participation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education a plus
  • 3+ years’ clinical experience in GI endoscopy within a procedural or OR setting (RN, Surgical Tech, or similar).
  • 3+ years of demonstrated hands-on experience in advanced therapeutic endoscopy, including ERCP, EUS, EMR, and POEM.
  • Ideal candidates have at least 1 year of experience with SpyGlass, ERCP, Cholangioscopy.
  • Proven ability to instruct, guide, and influence physicians and clinical teams in procedural settings.
  • Ability to adapt communication style to diverse audiences and clinical environments.
  • Ability to provide training and support in a calm, composed, and patient manner in high-pressure settings.
  • Self-starter with demonstrated initiative, curiosity, and ability to operate independently in the field.
  • Proven ability to build strong, trust-based relationships with physicians, nurses, technicians, and internal partners.
  • Highly professional demeanor with a collaborative, positive approach to teamwork.
  • Willingness to develop and perform within the MTU culture.

Essential functions of the job. Ability to:

  • Sustain lengthy conversations.
  • Adjust conversation style to accommodate diverse audiences.
  • Must be willing and able to travel extensively (approximately 50–75%) across the region, via both car and air, as required by customer and business needs.
  • Engage in logical reasoning, interpreting, and responding.
  • Physically be present in the GI lab for long periods at a time sometimes with little to no notice.
  • Transport marketing materials and product samples weighing up to 10 lbs.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year

Education:

Experience:
