Cloud Application Support Engineer (MD THINK / Maryland Benefits)

We are seeking experienced Cloud Application Support Engineers with prior experience working on the Maryland Benefits (MD THINK) platform or related Maryland Department of Health (MDH) applications such as EVRRS, EIS, PMM, and APRP.
This role focuses on ensuring the stability, performance, and security of mission-critical applications that deliver health and human services across the State of Maryland.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide platform and application support for MD THINK-hosted MDH applications (EVRRS, EIS, PMM, APRP).
  • Monitor system health, performance, and availability (AWS CloudWatch, Splunk, New Relic, SIEM tools).
  • Support incident management, root cause analysis (RCA), and outage resolution per SLA.
  • Apply and validate security patches, vulnerability remediation, and compliance reporting.
  • Perform routine system maintenance, including log rotation, software updates, and configuration management.
  • Support release/change management, including deployment of minor enhancements and configuration changes.
  • Manage backups, failover, and disaster recovery (DR) processes (AWS Glacier, replication, DR tests).
  • Work with cross-functional State and vendor teams on escalations and platform issues.
  • Document and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), maintenance schedules, and compliance evidence.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Hands-on experience supporting cloud-based enterprise applications, ideally in AWS environments.
  • Familiarity with MD THINK / Maryland Benefits platform or prior project work for MDH/DHS in Maryland.
  • Strong knowledge of:
  • Application monitoring: AWS CloudWatch, Splunk, New Relic
  • Security tools: Wiz, Tanium, CrowdStrike, Symantec DLP
  • Change/Release management: Jira, ITIL processes
  • Backup/DR: AWS Glacier, replication strategies
  • Proficiency in incident response and SLA-driven support.
  • Strong understanding of FIPS 140-2 encryption standards, Windows 11 Pro, O365 Professional licensing.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous work experience with EVRRS, EIS, PMM, APRP or other MD THINK-hosted applications.
  • Experience with government health and human services IT systems (TANF, SNAP, Child Support, Medicaid eligibility).
  • ITIL, AWS, or Security+ certification a plus.
  • Familiarity with State of Maryland IT standards and procurement processes.

Job Types: Full-time, Contract, Temp-to-hire

Projected Total Compensation: Up to $110,000.00 per year
