Job Summary
As a Certified Medication Aide (CMA), you will provide routine daily nursing care and services to assigned residents, including the safe administration of medications. You will work under the supervision of licensed nurses to maintain resident health and well-being in compliance with all applicable guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Observe and report resident reactions, side effects, and vital sign changes to the supervising licensed nurse before administering medications.
- Measure and document vital signs prior to medication administration and report any abnormalities.
- Personally prepare and administer prescribed medications, documenting only those you administer in the medical record.
- Report all refused or non-administered medications to the supervising licensed nurse.
- Obtain and report oxygen saturation levels using a pulse oximeter.
- Crush or alter medications as ordered and verified by the supervising nurse.
- Count, administer, and document controlled substances.
- Administer PRN medications only with authorization from the supervising nurse, documenting symptoms, contact time, permission, and effectiveness.
- Apply topical medications to minor skin conditions (e.g., dermatitis, scabies, fungal infections).
- Perform tests such as hemoccult, finger stick blood glucose, diabetic urine testing, and report results.
- Empty and change colostomy bags (excluding appliance).
- Instill commercially prepared enemas, administer sitz baths, or apply cold compresses as directed.
- Collect fecal or clean catch urine specimens.
- Document observations (what you see, hear, smell, or are reported by residents).
If Acting as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA):
- Receive and report resident status at shift changes.
- Provide personal care per individualized plans, including bathing, grooming, toileting, and dental care.
- Assist with meals, record intake, and transport residents to dining or appointments.
- Keep residents dry, clean, and rooms neat; assist with dressing, walking, and activities.
- Perform vital signs, weights, and restorative care (e.g., PROM, AROM, ambulation).
- Attend care plan meetings and maintain confidentiality per HIPAA.
- Promote a culture of compliance, ethics, and safe practices.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Education: CMA/Med Tech course completion
- Certification: Active CNA certification; completion of an approved medication education program with passed competency evaluation.
- Experience: Ability to perform tasks within educational preparation; up to 6 months training to fully perform the role.
- Skills: Proficiency in Google and Microsoft systems; administrative procedures; customer service; strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and judgment skills.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, lift/push/pull up to 25 lbs., reach, bend, and assist in resident evacuations; must meet facility health requirements, including mental/physical exams.
- Must relate well to ill, disabled, elderly, or emotionally upset individuals; exposure to infectious diseases, chemicals, and hazards possible.
- Availability for shifts beyond normal hours, weekends, and emergencies.
Pay: $27.00 - $32.00 per hour
