About SCHUNK

SCHUNK advances automation, clamping technology, and precision engineering around the globe. We’re driven by a love of technology and the belief that today’s ingenuity shapes tomorrow’s manufacturing. Quality is our signature, and we strive to get better as a team every day.

A Day in the Life

You start on the shop floor, shoulder-to-shoulder with machinists, reviewing overnight runs and uptime metrics. By mid-morning you’re in the CAM suite, validating toolpaths, simulating complex features, and standardizing methods for repeatability. After lunch, you collaborate with design and quality engineers to fine-tune process capability and implement engineering changes. You close the day by updating documentation, managing tooling strategies in the tool management system, and preparing programs for an upcoming NPI ramp.

Impact You’ll Make

  • Translate product designs into efficient, high-precision CNC processes using CAM software and simulation.
  • Own program management across product lines to ensure consistency, traceability, and reusability.
  • Lead troubleshooting for equipment uptime and drive permanent, cost-effective fixes.
  • Engineer robust manufacturing processes, from production flow and assembly methods to equipment utilization.
  • Analyze products and processes to reduce cost, improve quality, and increase throughput.
  • Partner with quality and design to establish process capability and implement control methods.
  • Advance plant quality goals and introduce engineering changes with minimal disruption.
  • Drive new product introduction from first article through smooth production integration.
  • Maintain a strong shop-floor presence providing hands-on support in tooling, fixturing, CAM programming, and standardization.
  • Support day-to-day production to meet customer demand.
  • Create and maintain clear, accurate manufacturing documentation.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Mechanical, or related Engineering; or an equivalent blend of education, training, and relevant experience.
  • 3+ years in manufacturing engineering or CAM programming focused on CNC machining and process development.
  • Hands-on machining knowledge in Turning and Milling; experience with mill-turn machines preferred.
  • Expertise in CAM programming with simulation to validate and optimize toolpaths.
  • Deep understanding of manufacturing methods and component-level production; able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience managing tooling systems and CNC program libraries, with attention to cost, lifecycle, and structure.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, manufacturing orders, and technical documentation; can also translate complex drawings/blueprints and shop drawings into executable processes.
  • Skilled at writing clear, usable process documentation and reports.
  • Ability to calculate and analyze production costs, maintenance expenses, and key manufacturing metrics.
  • Proven troubleshooting skills using manuals, schematics, and technical resources.
  • Strong verbal and written communication for effective cross-functional collaboration.
  • PC proficiency: Excel, email, and word processing tools.
  • Professional experience with CAD/CAM software.
