Co-Lead Inf/Tod Teacher

Teachers for the Boston Avenue Weekday School of Boston Avenue United Methodist Church provide an environment in which children can grow physically, emotionally, intellectually, socially and spiritually. Immediate positions are for an Infant Teacher and a Tod 1 Teacher. The ideal applicant will be able to work with other teachers and staff to provide the best possible experience for children, families, and colleagues. Must be able to complete all physical aspects of the duties of caring for children. Do Not Apply if you will not complete interview process.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Pass background checks (including fingerprints). Must have no criminal background history that includes offenses that are out of OKDHS policy for working with young children.
  • Prepare lessons and activities for an early learning classroom adhering to ELG guidelines (If hired for PreK age, will include Kindergarten readiness).
  • Must have taken (or will take upon hiring) a DHS-approved Safe Sleep Training Course, and Infant/Child CPR/First Aid, ELCCT, ELG, and other training as required.
  • Arrives at school on time in order to prepare the classroom for the day and ensures furniture, materials and classrooms are neat and attractive at the end of the day, ready for the next session. Is reliable and responsible.
  • Attends all staff meetings, workshops, parent meetings, work days, open houses and other special events, helping set up for these as needed.
  • Works with the Dir or Asst. Dir and other teachers in planning age-appropriate activities in accordance with the philosophy of Boston Avenue Weekday School.
  • Communicates with families, in a positive and respectful manner, about daily and special activities through written and verbal means.
  • Ensures that all parents properly check in children at the beginning of the day and check out children at the end of the day.
  • Consults Director and Assistant Director in cases of behavior concerns, parent concerns or other challenges which may arise.
  • Keeps individual folders on each child with skill checklists, anecdotal records, samples of artwork, or other records as needed.
  • Uses positive redirection or discipline techniques.
  • Must have or create upon hiring an account through CECPD/OK Registry.
  • Earns at least 20 continuing education training hours annually, maintains a current PDL, and shares information from such sessions with other teachers from approved OKDHS courses and training sessions.
  • Maintains current BLS and First Aid Certification.
  • Adheres to OKDHS regulations, and upholds guidelines for STARS rating.
  • Maintains professional presence when representing Boston Avenue United Methodist Church and exhibits behavior consistent with standards in performance, behavior and appearance.
  • Works respectfully, courteously, cooperatively, effectively and efficiently at all times as a productive member of the Weekday School staff, and others.
  • Cooperates with Sunday morning teachers and others who share the classroom, if applicable.
  • Creates a joyful, happy classroom where children can create, grow, and learn.
  • Assists with other school needs as requested by the Director and Asst. Director.
  • Is flexible to suit the needs of the children, or school.
  • Enjoys working with children.

Qualifications:

  • CDA, Certificate of Mastery, Degree or coursework in Early Childhood Education or related certifications STRONGLY PREFERRED.
  • Formal early childhood teaching experience REQUIRED.
  • Must be able to move, bend, squat, reach; and lift as required for the care of young children.

  • Willingness and desire to comply with and support all policies, procedures, standards and statements outlined in the Employee Handbook, policies and procedures of Boston Avenue United Weekday School and Boston Avenue United Methodist Church.
  • Ability to comply with a Monday to Friday schedule which will include working 8:15am to 3:00pm three days per week AND 8:15am to 5:30pm two days per week, as well as attendance at monthly staff meetings, periodic training and special events.
  • Boston Avenue Weekday School and the surrounding property of Boston Avenue UMC is a non-smoking (including vape, pens, tobacco or any other form of 'smoking') environment. All teachers and staff must comply with best practices for infant and child safety.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: From $16.00 per hour

Expected hours: 36.75 – 40 per week
