About the Role
As a ProFee & Facility Coding Specialist, you will be you will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate and compliant coding for medical records for STAR's clients. Must have strong coding skills with experience in multiple specialties and settings. We will train on client specifics however you are expected to have a thorough understanding of general coding principles and procedures including coding guidelines. Experience with Cerner and Epic is preferred. Will be required to complete coding assessments to be considered for this position. This is a employment position that is fully remote. Must be able to commit to fulltime (40 hrs. per week). Must be US-based. Flexibility to work weekends when needed a plus.
Responsibilities include:
- Reviews medical records to identify Diagnoses, E/M, CPT, HCPCS and modifiers relative to the patient’s encounter for various specialties and chart types including but not limited to Profee, Outpatient, Emergency Dept, Observation , Clinic and Same Day Surgery
- Assign codes accordingly based on chart type & client profile
- Charge entry & edit resolution required
- Validate appropriate information from the medical record is abstracted based on the coding guidelines & client specific guidelines
- Ensure all coding complies with the ethical coding standards/guidelines and regulatory requirements
- Make recommendations for ambiguous or conflicting documentation in the medical record and query as required by client policies
- Maintains the strictest confidentiality; adheres to all Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act guidelines/regulations
Experience/Qualifications:
- Must have one of the following AHIMA/AAPC certifications: CPC or CCS
- Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and coding guidelines for ICD-10-CM, CPT including HCPCS Level II codes, Modifiers, etc.
- At least 3 years of recent coding experience in:
- ProFee and Facility Emergency Dept.
- ProFee Hospitalist
- Urgent Care and Clinic visits
- ProFee and Facility Observation
- Same Day Surgery Preferred
- Nursing Facility and Long Term Care preferred
- CPT Codes
- HCPCS Level II Codes
- Infusions, injections, vaccinations & immunizations (adult & peds)
- Modifier usage
- NCCI Edits
- Knowledge of current and developing issues, trends in medical coding procedures requirements, and be able to research as needed
- Proficient computer skills using MS-Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet Explorer, electronic medical records (EMR) systems including Epic, Cerner, etc. along with 3M computer assisted coding program.
- Meet required client productivity standards and maintain minimum of 97% accuracy

Pay: $26.00 - $29.00 per hour
