Coder's Clubhouse Makerspace Instructor

Overview

Join Edina’s newest coding and makerspace center, Coder’s Clubhouse, and help inspire curiosity, creativity, and confidence in the next generation.

We are looking for engaging, responsible, and upbeat coaches to support our after-school Makerspace program for students ages 9–16. This is a unique role where students work through self-paced, hands-on projects, and coaches focus on building relationships, guiding learning, and creating a fun, welcoming environment.

Position Overview

As an After-School Makerspace Coach, you will support students as they choose and complete projects from our curated project library. These projects may include 3D design, 3D printing, electronics, and physical computing.

Rather than lecturing, your role is to circulate, guide, troubleshoot, and encourage creative thinking as students bring their ideas to life.

This is a highly interactive role that requires energy, positivity, and the ability to make learning fun.

Classes are 1.5 hours long and take place on weekday evenings starting at 4:00 PM.

What You’ll Do During Class

  • Create a fun, welcoming, and inclusive environment where students feel comfortable building and exploring
  • Build strong relationships with students and get to know their interests
  • Walk around the room to support students as they work through hands-on projects
  • Help students follow project instructions and stay on track
  • Troubleshoot issues and guide problem-solving without taking over
  • Encourage creativity, experimentation, and iteration
  • Challenge students who are ready to take their projects further
  • Keep students engaged, focused, and motivated
  • Celebrate progress, creativity, and completed builds

Before / After Class

  • Prepare materials, tools, and equipment (including 3D printers if needed)
  • Reset materials and workspace after sessions
  • Communicate with the Coder’s Clubhouse team about student progress or needs

Requirements

  • Experience working with kids (tutoring, coaching, camps, teaching, babysitting, etc.)
  • Experience or familiarity with one or more of the following:
  • 3D printing
  • TinkerCAD or other 3D design tools
  • Physical computing (Micro:bit, basic electronics, circuits)
  • Hands-on building, engineering, or maker projects
  • Ability to guide students through projects and problem-solving
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Positive, patient, and encouraging attitude
  • Ability to create a fun, structured, and welcoming environment
  • Dependable and prepared

Bonus (not required):

  • Experience with Bambu Lab 3D printers
  • Experience running or supporting makerspace environments

Schedule & Pay

  • Weekday evenings starting at 4:00 PM
  • Classes are 1.5 hours long, once per week
  • Flexible scheduling based on availability
  • $16–$20 per hour, depending on experience

Why This is a Great Opportunity

  • Work in a fun, creative, and hands-on environment
  • Build experience mentoring students in real-world STEM skills
  • Gain experience with 3D printing, design tools, and maker technology
  • Great for high school or college students interested in engineering, design, or education
  • Opportunity to grow with a new and expanding program

To Apply

Please submit:

  • Your resume (optional)
  • A brief note about your experience working with kids and hands-on projects
  • Any tools or technologies you’re familiar with (3D printing, TinkerCAD, electronics, etc.)
  • We will be scheduling interviews on April 3rd, 4th, and 6th. Early applications are encouraged.
