Cognitive Remediator

Job description:

Unique and Immediate opportunity for those seeking to advance their early psychology careers, education, and experience in brain injury rehab. We are looking for a full-time cognitive therapist to provide remediation/rehabilitation (i.e. attention, memory, processing, visual spatial skills, executive functioning, etc.) for individuals who have sustained Traumatic Brain Injuries. Opportunities to work within an interdisciplinary team (Neuropsychology, Physiatry, Speech/Language Pathology, Social Work, OT, PT, Nursing), co-lead cognitive/psychology group sessions, assist in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, and evaluating new programs in the TBI unit, and gain experience in assessment is also offered.

Queens Nassau Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Subacute Brain Injury Program provides specialized services with knowledge and expertise in brain injury and neuro-rehabilitation. Rehabilitation in the cognitive realm is a specific need of most brain injury survivors. Neuropsychological testing evaluations, unique to Queens Nassau, provides a template for cognitive goals to facilitate individualized therapy. Queens Nassau Rehabilitation and Nursing Center also provides Physiatry Services from consultations out of New York University Hospital’s world-renowned RUSK Institute.

QUALIFICATIONS/GENERAL REQUIRMENTS:

· Bachelors’ degree in Psychology/Special Education

· Advanced degree preferred though current students will be considered

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough assessments and diagnostic evaluations of patients to determine their mental health needs.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on patient assessments and therapeutic goals.
  • Provide mental health counseling to individuals, focusing on PTSD care and other emotional challenges.
  • Maintain accurate medical documentation in accordance with hospital policies and regulations.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care and support.
  • Stay informed about medical terminology and best practices in mental health counseling.
  • Support patients with developmental disabilities, ensuring their unique needs are met during therapy sessions.
  • Engage in continuous professional development to enhance therapeutic skills and knowledge.

Skills

  • Proficiency in medical documentation practices and familiarity with hospital settings.
  • Strong background in mental health counseling techniques, particularly related to PTSD care.
  • Ability to perform diagnostic evaluations effectively and compassionately.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology relevant to patient care in a therapeutic context.
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is highly desirable.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, enabling effective communication with patients and their families.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing patient records and treatment plans efficiently.
