College Admissions Advisor

Have you served as an admissions officer or evaluated applicants at a Top 50 college or university? If so, Varsity Tutors has students seeking exactly that expertise and guidance this summer. Our highly motivated tutoring students have spent the school year working on AP/honors classes and high-stakes test prep, and we're going to use their summer downtime to ensure that hard work pays off in the admissions process, too.

About the Role

Varsity Tutors is assembling a team of former admissions officers and essay readers to work one-on-one with high school students this summer through our live tutoring platform. If you've evaluated applications at a competitive four-year institution and want to put that experience to work — without the overhead of running your own practice — this is built for you.

We've taken care of the operational side: scheduling is platform-managed, billing is automatic, and our AI tools generate session summaries so you're not writing follow-up emails after every call. We also provide session planning resources with structured, guided activities covering everything from essay storyboarding to soliciting letters of rec — so you can join each session with a completed student profile and a clear agenda.

What You'll Do

Work primarily with rising 11th and 12th graders at a pivotal moment in their college journey. Sessions are structured and productive from the start — students arrive having completed a detailed intake profile and guided self-assessment, so you can get right to the work of strategy and insight.

Typical session focus areas include: personal brand and essay direction, extracurricular narrative and activity list framing, school list evaluation, early decision strategy, and letters of recommendation planning. You'll also have access to a library of student handouts and Varsity Tutors content you can work through during sessions or assign between them.

Who We're Looking For

  • Former admissions officer, admissions counselor, or application reader at a regionally or nationally competitive four-year institution (top 25–50 strongly preferred)
  • Direct experience evaluating applications and/or participating in admissions committee decisions
  • Strong instincts for student narrative, essay positioning, and what actually differentiates applicants
  • Comfortable working within a structured, session-based model rather than long-form independent consulting
  • Available for a minimum of 5–8 sessions per week, June through August

What We're Offering

  • $100/hour, guaranteed and paid automatically through the platform — no invoicing, no chasing payments. (NOTE: even higher rates are available pending Ivy League admissions experience)
  • You control your schedule: set your availability once, students book themselves
  • Pre-built student intake forms and structured activity library help you arrive prepared for every session
  • No post-session admin: AI-generated summaries are sent to students automatically
  • Students are existing Varsity Tutors members — no cold outreach or sales cycle required
  • Opportunities to participate in project-based contract work in the admissions space, including webinars, podcast appearances, and activity/resource design
  • Access to the full Varsity Tutors student experience. See gaps in a student's profile? You can directly refer them to tutors, classes, and activities already included in their membership.

To Apply

Send your resume and a brief description of your admissions background — institution(s), role(s), and the types of applications you evaluated. We'll follow up with qualified applicants to schedule a 30-minute introductory call.
