College Intern - Marketing, Public Relations, Graphic Design

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CLASS

Perform entry level professional duties of moderate difficulty providing the opportunity for professional training in various offices throughout the City. Perform assigned duties to acquire knowledge of methods, procedures and standards required for successful performance. Specific activities vary by department. Work is performed under direct supervision.

This internship is with the Parks, Recreation, & Cultural Arts Department located in City Hall at 228 South Massachusetts Avenue in Lakeland, FL. Interns will work a maximum of 30 hours a week. This internship will begin in early January.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Work with the Parks, Recreation, & Cultural Arts Program Coordinator to facilitate marketing projects
  • Create content for the Parks, Recreation, & Cultural Arts social media profiles
  • Assist with website optimization from SEO to copy updates on pages
  • Assist in creating and maintaining Social Media Marketing campaigns
  • Assist in daily and general marketing tasks as needed
  • Assist in the promotion Parks, Recreation, & Cultural Arts program and spaces via video, photography, and other promotional tools

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform related work as required

QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE)

Enrollment as a Junior or Senior in an accredited college or university in a major relating to Marketing, Public Relations, Advertising, Web Design, Graphic Design, Broadcasting

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and other presentation software
  • Knowledge of Social Media Applications and best practices
  • General grammar proficiency for creating copy to be used on the web and creating promotional materials
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and standard office equipment
  • Ability to promptly and effectively complete tasks
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, other City employees and the general public
  • Skill in communicating effectively both verbally and in writing, and to request clarification when needed

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS:

  • Requires sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a recurring basis, routine keyboard operations
  • The job risks exposure to no significant environmental hazards
  • The job requires normal visual acuity, and field of vision, hearing and speaking
