Starting Range: $73,071.00 - $90,264.00 DOE

Savings Bank of Mendocino County has proudly been serving the needs of our communities since 1903 and is seeking a qualified professional for the role of Commercial Loan Underwriter in the Credit Administration Department. This position involves performing detailed credit analysis and underwriting of Commercial & Industrial (C&I) and commercial real estate (CRE) loans. This role emphasizes evaluating operating companies, analyzing business cash flow, and structuring credit facilities that support growth while managing risk.

The ideal candidate has four or more years of experience in a credit analyst or equivalent position. A successful person in this role is organized; detail oriented; personable; has strong time management skills; and is comfortable interacting with a broad range of individuals, including customers, executive officers and third-party companies. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs in-depth financial analysis of operating companies, including review of financial statements, tax returns, and borrower/guarantor cash flow.
  • Recommends loan structures, collateral, covenants, and risk ratings consistent with internal policy.
  • Works closely with commercial lenders to clarify borrower needs and guide deal structure.
  • Prepares clear, concise credit memoranda for new requests, renewals, and modifications.
  • Underwrites Commercial & Industrial (C&I) and commercial real estate (CRE) loans, including owner-occupied and investment properties.
  • Conducts annual reviews and ongoing risk assessments for CRE relationships.
  • Monitors covenant compliance, financial reporting, borrowing bases (if applicable), and early warning indicators.
  • Supports portfolio analysis, stress testing, and concentration management activities.
  • Ensures underwriting and loan structures comply with internal credit policies, regulatory standards, and safety-and-soundness expectations.
  • Maintains complete documentation in credit systems and participates in internal audits or regulatory exams as needed.
  • Exercises individual loan approval authority up to an assigned limit and participates in joint approvals or credit committee reviews for larger or more complex credits.
  • Additional duties as assigned depending on department needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

  • Four (4) years’ experience in a credit analyst or commercial lending position
    • Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Economics, or related field may substitute for years of experience

PREFERENCES

  • Previous experience as a Commercial Loan Underwriter
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Economics, or related field
  • Completion of formal commercial credit training
