Commercial Driver's License A Truck Driver

About Us

Sawtooth Landworks is a small family-owned excavation, site work, and hauling contractor based in Nampa, Idaho. We handle residential, small commercial, and small subdivision projects across the Treasure Valley and into the mountains (McCall Areas). We've grown fast because we do the work right and stand behind it — built on relationships, driven by precision. We're looking for a dependable driver who takes pride in the same.

Position Summary

We're hiring a part-time/full time, seasonal CDL dump truck driver to haul aggregate, fill, spoils, and equipment to and from active job sites. Hours vary with the season and the workload — slower stretches in the off-season, and full-time hours when the projects stack up. This is a good fit for someone who wants flexibility and is comfortable with seasonal work rather than a guaranteed 40 every week. It's a hands-on role for someone who shows up on time, communicates well with the crew, treats the equipment like it's their own, and isn't afraid to grab a shovel when the load's down and the work's still going.

We do work out of town in Mccall, Idaho areas about 30-45% of the summer season depending on the year. We provide stay. The right candidate would be someone who is okay with work both in the valley along with working a week or two at a time (No weekends) away from home. IF needed being home each day may be possible.

This position is in a fast growing company, if you are a good fit and put in the work you can go far with us.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate tri-axle dump trucks and tri-axle dump trucks with pup dump trailers — our fleet runs 1995-1998 Mack RD688s — to haul material between pits, yards, and job sites
  • Load, secure, and unload material in coordination with equipment operators and ground crew
  • Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections and maintain accurate Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs)
  • Keep loads legal and properly secured per DOT and Idaho regulations
  • Perform routine checks on fluids, tires, lights, brakes, and report maintenance needs promptly; help with basic upkeep and minor repairs when able
  • Keep the truck and yard area clean and organized
  • Communicate clearly with dispatch and crew on timing, delays, and site conditions
  • Assist the ground crew with site work, grading, and cleanup as needed between hauls
  • Drive defensively in all conditions, including mountain grades and winter roads
  • Run older equipment with care — these are well-kept 90s trucks, and we need a driver who understands how to treat a manual Mack right

Qualifications

  • Valid Class A CDL with no automatic-transmission restriction (no "E" restriction) — our trucks are manual
  • Able to confidently operate a manual transmission, including non-synchronized shifting — our whole fleet is manual, so we need genuinely skilled drivers who can handle a loaded Maxitorque gearbox on grades and in tight spots
  • Comfortable operating Class A combination vehicles (tri-axle truck + pup trailer)
  • Clean driving record and ability to pass a DOT physical, drug screen, and enrollment in our testing consortium
  • Experience hauling aggregate, dirt, or construction material preferred
  • Experience driving tri-axle dump trucks and pulling pup dump trailers strongly preferred
  • Comfortable backing into tight job sites and dumping on uneven ground (with and without a pup)
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work full days outdoors in all seasons
  • Comfortable with a flexible, seasonal schedule — fewer hours in slow stretches, full-time hours during busy periods
  • Good communication and a team-first attitude

Preferred (Not Required)

  • Mechanical experience — ability to help with basic maintenance and minor repairs (fluids, brakes, air systems, lights, greasing, troubleshooting) is a big plus on our older fleet
  • Experience operating a loader, excavator, or skid steer
  • Familiarity with Treasure Valley pits, batch plants, and job sites
  • Experience hauling equipment on equipment trailers
  • Knowledge of site work and earthwork basics

What We Offer

  • Seasonal work with a growing local company, with full-time hours during busy stretches
  • Competitive pay based on experience
  • Paid time off (PTO)
  • Well-maintained, late-model equipment
  • A crew that respects each other and takes pride in the job
